American media executive and businessman Bob Chapek is the chief executive officer of The Walt Disney Company. He became its CEO on February 25, 2020, replacing Robert Iger. He served as the chairman of Disney Parks & Resorts and President of Consumer Products before being named CEO.
He has worked for the company since 1993. He first started out as Buena Vista Home Entertainment’s marketing director and helped the division move away from VHS tapes to DVDs and Blu-Rays.
As a result, he brought Disney’s home entertainment division into the digital age and made it into one of the most successful in the world.
In 2014, he founded the Disney Imagicademy, which designed smartphone apps for children. He is also a member of the Make-A-Wish Foundation National Board.
Chapek’s career has been marked by growth and transformation, and he’s known for being a visionary leader. During his time at Disney, he has led the company to become more profitable and has been responsible for numerous landmark projects that are now a part of their culture.
His salary at Disney was around $14.2 million in 2020, which is a large sum for a man who has spent more than 30 years working at the company. He also has a so-called non-qualified deferred compensation plan that is akin to a super-sized 401(k) that many large companies offer their employees.
According to Bloomberg, he has about $8.5 million in his plan and that could be worth much more than it is now. In addition to his salary, he has a pension that he will receive regardless of whether or not he remains at Disney.
