American stand-up comedian, actor, TV show host, voice over artist, and impressionist. He gained fame as a character on the sitcom Full House, which ran for five seasons from 1987 to 1995 until it was canceled. He also performed voice work for a number of other television shows including Muppet Babies, The Real Ghostbusters, Scooby and Scrappy-Doo, Pinky and the Brain, Teen Titans, Robot Chicken, and Bob & Doug.
David Alan Coulier was born in St. Clair Shores, Michigan on September 21, 1959. His father was a foreman and his mother was an inside decorator. His mother's side was from Bathurst, New Brunswick, Canada, and his paternal grandmother was Jewish.
He studied at Notre Dame High School in Harper Woods, Michigan. He began performing stand-up comedy during his high school days, mimicking teachers and other staff members over the school's PA system.
In 1979, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue comedy as a career. He began his career with Hanna-Barbera Studios, and quickly rose through the ranks.
His first big break came when he was cast as Joey Gladstone on the ABC sitcom Full House in 1987. He played the role for five seasons before it was canceled, and his fame continued to grow with his involvement in a variety of other animated series.
He was married for two years to actress Jayne Modean in the early 1990s, and they share one child together. He later dated singer Alanis Morissette, and the couple broke up shortly before Morissette recorded her album Jagged Little Pill in 1995.
