One of the most wanted drug lords in Mexico, El Mencho aka Ruben Oseguera Cervantes has been evading the Mexican police for years. He is the head of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and has a $10 million bounty on his head.
As the head of the CJNG, Mencho has a large fortune. According to Stratfor, he has more than $1 billion in assets. He also has a large family, with his wife Rosalinda Gonzalez Valencia and three children; Laisha, Ruben Oseguera Gonzalez ("El Menchito"), and Jessica Johana.
Born in July 1966, he was raised in rural Michoacan. He grew up in a poor family and worked to develop avocados.
He moved to California around age 19 and started his drug trafficking business. He was caught selling methamphetamines in 1986 and was sent back to Mexico. He returned to the United States a second time in 1989.
A DEA agent tells us that Mencho is a cunning operator who uses extreme violence to convince his victims to join the cartel. Captured members have testified that he often tortures and kills his enemies.
In addition, he has a large network of assassins. He is also a very intelligent man who is always thinking about the next step in his crime.
He has a shrewd business strategy and has avoided American scrutiny by focusing on the exportation of drugs to countries like Australia where he can sell them at a premium. He has used submarines to bring in the narcotics and also employed fashion models to smuggle them into the country.
