When I first moved to Hawaii, my dream was to live in the fictional beachfront estate that served as "Robin's Nest" in Tom Selleck's hit series Magnum P.I.
Then a couple years ago, I discovered that the real estate was demolished.
Despite all the hype, the actual estate, which was called "Pahonu," was torn down just three years after being sold for $8 million.
Honolulu has become synonymous with Magnum PI, with the show filmed all over the island. Waikiki Beach, the International Marketplace and Kalakaua Avenue are just a few of the areas filmed in the series.
There are also a few scenes filmed at Aloha Stadium Hawaii in Aiea, Maili Point in Maili and the Banzai Pipeline in Pupukea. In addition, a boar hunter's house has been filmed at Heeia Kea Jungle in Kailua Valley.
Robin's Nest, the iconic estate that was owned by millionaire novelist Robin Masters, is partially inspired by an oceanfront estate at 49-3 Kamehameha Hwy in Kaneohe. The real estate was demolished in 2018.
In Hawaii Five-0, the main police station is located at 401 Smith Street in Honolulu Downtown. The tattoo shop is located at 1001 Waimanu St in Kaka'ako, and the bank scene is at the junction of King Street and Smith Street.
Magnum pi is one of the most beloved shows on television. It stars Thomas Magnum, a former Navy SEAL turned private investigator. The show is set in Hawaii and follows the adventures of Magnum as he solves cases around the island.

Magnum pi is one of the first shows to portray Vietnam War veterans as human beings with emotions rather than a bunch of shell-shocked, unstable killers. The series also featured many genuinely shocking episodes that deviated from genre tropes and took the show in unexpected directions.
As well as being filmed in Honolulu, the show also featured numerous scenes of the island's natural beauty. Several episodes were shot at Kualoa Ranch, the stunning mountain range that serves as the backdrop for much of the show's opening credits sequence.
