The Most Dangerous Cities in Utah

most dangerous cities in Utah

Utah is generally regarded as one of the safest states in the US. However, crime still occurs in some parts of the state.

Crime is centralized in specific neighborhoods and it's important to know where you are most likely to be victimized. That's why we have listed the most dangerous cities in Utah below.

Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City is the capital of Utah and its most populous city. It is also home to some of the state’s most popular attractions.

As a visitor, you should be aware of the risks that you may face when visiting Salt Lake City. While there are many law enforcement officers and security guards around the area, you should always take precautions to protect yourself.

Salt Lake City has recently re-joined a list of the most dangerous cities in the United States thanks to a rise in violent crime. NeighborhoodScout compares data about murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault among cities with more than 25,000 people.

South Salt Lake

South Salt Lake is one of the most dangerous cities in Utah, according to a new study. The Beehive State saw its violent crime rates drop considerably between 2016 and 2019, but despite that, the rate was equivalent to 236 incidents per 100,000 residents.

While crime is an issue in every city, South Salt Lake is particularly bad for tourists and locals alike. The city has a higher crime rate than some of the state's most popular attractions, such as Las Vegas, which makes it dangerous to visit alone.

Cedar City

Cedar City is a small college town in southwestern Utah. It is a popular basecamp for road-tripping in the area, with many restaurants serving American and international fare.

It is also known for a unique story of community cooperation. When a school was threatened, the community banded together to transport lumber from a nearby mill to secure the building.

It has a lower crime rate than many other cities in Utah and is safer than most surrounding areas. However, it does have some of the highest violent crime rates in the state.

Tooele

Long before pioneers settled the valley, nomadic bands of Goshute Indians made this desertscape their home. These tribes inhabited wickiups -- round shelters built from brush -- and made clothing from woven plants and rabbit skins.

As pioneers homesteaded the region, native numbers declined and are now fewer than 100 people. They still reside on a reservation in Tooele County's Skull Valley.

Tooele is a railroad and trading centre with smelting and mining (silver, copper, and gold), agriculture (grains, sugar beets), and defense installations (Tooele Army Depot and the Dugway Proving Ground) as its economic mainstays. Five parks and a municipal swimming pool are among the city's attractions.

Park City

Park City is a world-class ski resort and tourist hotspot in Utah. It's also home to the Sundance Film Festival and a number of other fun events.

Its historic district is a lively hub of food, art, and shopping. Dozens of boutiques line Main Street, and you'll find everything from candy shops to bookstores to art galleries.

Grantsville

Grantsville is a peaceful city with a true western-frontier history. Its wide main street is lined with tall, lovely trees.

The town was settled by Mormon pioneers in 1850 and is home to several wells that supply fresh water. Originally called Twenty Wells, the town changed its name to Grantsville in honor of Colonel George D. Grant, a military leader who helped fight hostile Native Americans.

The crime rate in Grantsville is lower than most other cities in Utah, but still higher than the national average. It has a relatively low poverty rate, but it isn't without its challenges.
