most expensive houses in Delaware

One of the first states to ratify the Constitution, Delaware serves up East Coast charm and a proud history. With miles of beaches and boardwalks, unique historical architecture, and exciting urban developments, Delaware has something for everyone!

The state's economy is thriving as well, with its average effective state property tax rate below the national average. Whether you're a homebuyer looking for an easy commute to Philadelphia or a retiree in search of affordable housing, Delaware has plenty to offer!

1. Rehoboth Beach Oceanfront Home

Rehoboth Beach is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the state, thanks to its stunning beaches, boardwalk, and fun amusement park. It also offers plenty of activities for families and retirees.

Rehoboth beach oceanfront homes are highly sought after, and they hold their value due to the fact that the area is considered a vacation hot spot. This is because it offers a quiet, friendly community, luxury waterfront properties, and quality locally owned shops and outlets nearby.

Many of these homes feature sweeping open rooms with bright windows that let in the spectacular ocean sunrises. They also have modern kitchens and spa-inspired bathrooms that would rival any five-star hotel.

2. Westover Mansion

Built in 1730, Westover Mansion is one of America's premier examples of colonial Georgian architecture. Its symmetrical proportions, steeply pitched roof, and tall chimneys in pairs at both ends of the main house are among its most attractive features.

This beautiful Georgian-style house stands on the James River and was originally devoted to tobacco cultivation, which was a major cash crop in Tidewater Virginia during the colonial era. However, changes in markets forced planters to transition from tobacco to mixed crops in the 19th century.

As a result, the mansion was significantly changed over the years. Its original east wing burned down in 1862, and it was rebuilt.

The hyphens connecting the original wings to the central house were added in about 1900. In the late 19th century it was purchased by Colonel John Drewry, a Union general who remodeled the interior and added a dining room that ran the depth of the home.

Today, the Westover Mansion is owned by the Crane family. It is a magnificent piece of history with stunning views and a lawn by the river.

3. Chesapeake Bay Estate

The Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries offer a world of waterfront real estate options. From homes with sweeping water views and docks to historic homes on waterfront farms and cottages on creeks, the Eastern Shore is an excellent place to find your next slice of coastal living heaven.

Rehoboth Beach has become a hotspot for luxury waterfront homes, and is an excellent choice for homebuyers of all ages. Quality schools, water parks and access to State Parks make it a great place to raise a family.

Rehoboth Beach is also a great spot for retirees. It has a quiet, friendly community, and is close to Baywood Greens, a championship 18-hole golf course. It's also a haven for water sports enthusiasts, with kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding, kite surfing, and fishing among the options.
