New Mexico is a place of vibrant culture, rich architecture and unparalleled natural beauty. But it’s also a place where some of the world’s most expensive houses are situated.
There are many factors that contribute to the cost of living in New Mexico, including housing costs, healthcare and miscellaneous expenses. Here are some of the most expensive houses in the state.
1. Apache Mesa Red Valley Ranch
The gist of it is that this swanky 1,060-acre equestrian property sits on top of the pinyon-juniper cradle and boasts multiple adobe structures, including a main hacienda and a billiards room that looks out over a gorgeous grassy knoll.
This regal abode has 8 bedrooms and is conveniently situated within a short drive of Ghost Ranch and the charming town of Abiquiu, New Mexico. The most impressive component of this enclave is the 14,000-square-foot main hacienda which features a modern kitchen, spa-like bathrooms and a master suite worthy of a queen.
This is by no means the only luxury home for sale in the state, but it certainly stands out as one of the most expensive and opulent houses to be found anywhere in America. In fact, a recent survey by Christie’s International Real Estate reported that New Mexico ranks as the hottest luxury second home market in the nation and has seen a 40% increase in residential property sales over the last year.
2. Cerro Gordo Road
Cerro Gordo Road was once a bustling mining town, but its rich silver mines have now become a ghost town. In the late 1800s, silver, lead and zinc were discovered high in the Inyo Mountains.
Eventually, the mines and towns of Cerro Gordo were abandoned in 1938. Today, the 360-acre property is owned by Brent Underwood and Jon Bier.
The owners say they're working to open up the abandoned town and reestablish it as a tourist attraction. The two friends bought the property for $1.4 million a year ago.
The property has a lot of history and is also the starting point for the Badwater(r) Cerro Gordo race. The 101.4-mile route takes runners across the Owens Valley and up a steep dirt road to Cerro Gordo ghost town.
3. Zoro Ranch
Zorro Ranch, the estate where Jeffrey Epstein allegedly trafficked several women, has hit the market again. Priced at $27.5 million, the property initially hit the market last July but was unable to find a buyer.
The 7,500-acre New Mexico ranch is located in Stanley, south of Santa Fe. It features multiple residences, stables and a grass air strip and hanger.
According to the New York Post, the asking price for the ranch has been dropped from $27.5 million to $21.5 million. It is listed by Neil Lyon and Matt Desmond of Sotheby’s International Realty.
The massive compound was leased to Epstein’s Zorro Trust from 1993 until his death in 2019. State land commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard told KRQE News 13 that Epstein had state lease agreements for grazing cattle on public lands near the mansion. However, she says he died in 2019 without having any effect on his leases. She said a complicated road lies ahead.
4. Hacienda Bella Vista
As the nation's real estate market heats up, it's no surprise that New Mexico is home to some of the country's most expensive homes for sale. In fact, according to data from the REALTORS Association of New Mexico, sales in the luxury category rose 40% year-over-year in April alone.
One of the most popular luxury houses in New Mexico is Hacienda Bella Vista, a property that's a part of Las Dos, or "The Two," a historic enclave located northwest of Santa Fe. Originally homesteaded by Adelina “Nina” Otero Warren and Mamie Meadors, the 50-acre estate is situated in a beautiful setting with stunning views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
This awe-inspiring residence is the epitome of opulence, offering an expansive chef's kitchen with butler's pantry, a climate-controlled 350-bottle wine cellar, media room and a formal entertaining area. Exposed beams, fireplaces and oversized windows abound throughout the main residence. Additional features include a private bridge and a decadent dual master suite that basks in uninterrupted views of the mountains.
The use of cell phones has become a vital part of daily life, and it has also become a significant tool for businesses to reach out to their customers. With the increasing use of mobile phones, it has become imperative for businesses to keep track of their customer's phone carriers to optimize their sales strategies. […]
