What a Location Has to Offer
No two sites are the same, and this is important to remember. Establishing what a location or site has to offer will be crucial to your search. For example, does the location give you the opportunity to be part of a community? Or, does it give you the chance to enjoy the company of others, perhaps through new group activities or opportunities to socialize. Within assisted living, you have to realize you will never be alone. You will always have support on standby.
Where You Would Like to Live?
What area do you want to live in? For example, are you looking at assisted living in Scottsdale, or are you looking at moving to a new town or state? Where do you see yourself, and how important is the location to your search? Do you want to be close to family and friends, or do you need to be close to other family members and relatives? What would you like a new location to offer you that perhaps your current home does not?
What Facilities are Available On-site
Within all assisted living suites, the facilities on offer vary. Some offer restaurants and cafes, stores, and laundry facilities, and some offer more community groups/ social activities. What facilities would you like available to you, and what facilities would you need? When you have a list of your priorities and their importance, you can then start to narrow down the choices on offer.
Cost/Payment Options
How much will assisted living cost you, and how will you fund this? Will you sell your home, or will you look at renting it out? You may find it beneficial to liaise with a financial planner, who can help you to assess what you can do to move forwards with your new way of life, and new lifestyle. When you are getting together costs and payment options from assisted living providers, you need to be sure that you are doing a like for like comparison. When you are doing a side-by-side comparison of what is on offer and what you are getting for your money, you can then make a decision. Without having a direct comparison, you may struggle to find what you are looking for.
