Those who have recently watched Channel 5's charming All Creatures Great and Small might have noticed that many of the scenes were filmed in and around the UK's glorious Yorkshire Dales.
For season 2, filming took place in and around Grassington, situated in the southern area of the Dales. This is where 'Darrowby' village was filmed, as well as various other period buildings and locations.
The Yorkshire Dales is getting a much-needed tourism boost after the acclaimed TV show All Creatures Great and Small was filmed here. The PBS series transports viewers to the fictional village of Darrowby, which is set in the 1930s.
In order to create the look of Darrowby, the production team needed to find a location that looked as though it had been in that time period. This meant finding a location that had a quaint feel to it, and the town of Grassington was perfect for the job.
As well as filming in Grassington, a number of other picturesque spots across the region were used to recreate Darrowby, including Broughton Hall near Skipton, and Yockenthwaite Farm, which is where Mrs Pumphrey lives.
The town of Grassington has also been used for various other films and TV shows over the years, but it was the All Creatures Great and Small production that really got locals on side with their enthusiasm for the show. The village was a wonderful location to work with, and the production crew were all very thankful for their help during the shoot.
The Yorkshire Dales provide a calming backdrop for Channel 5’s All Creatures Great and Small. The series follows vet James Herriot and features stunning scenic shots of the region, making it a joy to watch in times of bleakness or just to relax and unwind.
One of the stately homes used in the show is Broughton Hall, located near Skipton, North Yorkshire. The Grade 1-listed estate is a true English country home with 17 elegant and luxurious bedrooms, magnificent drawing rooms, spacious dining areas and extensive grounds.
The property also offers a wide range of leisure amenities including an outdoor swimming pool, billiards room, croquet lawn and fire temple, all set within the stunning 3,000 acre private estate. The estate is a perfect setting for a memorable wedding or family reunion.

The town centre is arranged around an attractive market place where a clock tower is the centrepiece of a bustling cobbled square. The town has a real buzz on Mondays and Saturdays, with independent shopping, cafes and bars.
It is also known for its racecourse, which holds 15 days of flat racing each year. There are several interesting museums including a charming one about Thomas Lord, founder of the famous Lords cricket ground in London.
James Alfred Wight, author of the Herriot books, practiced veterinary medicine in Thirsk for many years and his former surgery is now a museum. Visitors can explore the home and surgery that he worked out of, as well as reproduced sets from the original TV series.
