BattleBots is a television series that features remote-controlled robots that go head to head in three minute matches with the goal of disabling or destroying their opponents.
The show was first aired on Comedy Central, then re-launched on ABC in 2015 and has since aired seven seasons. Here are where you can catch a live BattleBots event in your area this year!
Lakewood
If you’re looking to see the latest in fighting competition, then BattleBots might be just the show for you. With a live audience, there’s always a lot of hype and excitement surrounding every fight.
BattleBots is a robotic combat tournament that airs on the Discovery Channel. Participants travel from all over the world to Lakewood, California, every year to compete for the coveted Giant Nut trophy.
The defending champion, Paul Ventimiglia, and his bot, Bite Force, are from New Jersey. Kindle, who lives in Edison, leads a team from the area and is one of two New Jersey teams competing on the show currently airing.
Kindle’s robot, Blacksmith, is known for its extreme toughness. It can take hits that would knock out lesser machines.
California
Robot combat TV show BattleBots is returning to the Discovery Channel this summer. But before they hit the airwaves, teams are filming a live show in Long Beach, California.
The competition includes dozens of remote-controlled robot gladiators weighing up to 250 pounds and constructed with military-grade hardware. Their weaponry includes saw blades, hammers, knives, axes, air cannons, clamps, jaws, drills, drums and plows.
There are also robots that walk on legs and are designed to fight each other while laying down a heavy load. Among the returnees are fan favorites like Tombstone, Witch Doctor, Death Roll and Lock-Jaw.
Season nine, entitled Fighting Night, is hosted by NFL sportscaster Chris Rose and former UFC fighter Kenny Florian. Faruq Tauheed, a former BattleBots announcer, returns as the arena announcer, and Jenny Taft is the pit reporter. The season begins with a series of qualifiers and ends with a world championship tournament. This season’s battles feature teams with a 1-0 record, as well as perennial favorites and two new rookies.
United States
BattleBots is an American television series where teams design and operate remote-controlled armed and armored machines designed to fight in an arena combat elimination tournament. The show airs on Discovery Channel.
The show was created by Ed Roski and Greg Munson. They have been in the web-design industry for decades.
Originally, BattleBots filmed in San Francisco and later moved to Lakewood, California. The show uses a 48-by-48-foot square arena, called the BattleBox, which has high net-like walls that rise from the edges to protect the audience and officials during competitions.
The BattleBox also has other elements that make the fights more exciting and engaging. The arena contains pulverizers, spike strips, spinners, pistons, kill-saws, ramrods and hellraisers that help contestants in their fights.
Arena
BattleBots is one of the most popular shows on television. It follows a group of robot builders as they build and operate remote-controlled armed and armored machines to compete in a combat elimination tournament.
It’s filmed in a venue called the BattleBox. It’s a massive box with high walls on both sides so that the studio audience can watch the action.
In addition to the main arena, there is a set of pits where each robot can be tested before the competition begins. The pits are located at Caesars Entertainment Studios in Las Vegas, Nevada.
All of the metal on metal carnage takes place at this location as sixteen of the deadliest BattleBots compete for the title of world champion. There are a number of top contenders including Bite Force, Tombstone, Minotaur, Witch Doctor and Bombshell. All of the fighting will be filmed for a 16-episode series premiering this spring on Discovery and Science Channel.
