General Hospital is the longest-running soap opera in the world and still remains popular more than fifty years after it first premiered. It’s no wonder, considering the show’s many memorable locations and intriguing characters.
The longest-running daytime soap is filmed on set at the Prospect Studios in Hollywood, California. It recently filmed its 15,000th episode and celebrated with a special Laura Spencer-themed episode.
Grey’s Anatomy
Shonda Rhimes’ medical drama Grey’s Anatomy is one of the longest-running shows on television and has become a huge hit with fans all over the world. It has been praised for its strong female characters and racial diversity.
The series is filmed in Los Angeles and most of the interior scenes take place at Prospect Studios. This is a studio located in Los Feliz which is just east of Hollywood.
This studio consists of six massive sound stages where all the hospital related shots are filmed, including operating rooms, hallways and reception areas.
While the majority of Grey’s Anatomy is filmed in Los Angeles, there are some scenes that are filmed in Seattle. The show uses the Veterans Hospital in North Hills as a main entrance to the hospital and also film images of the city’s skyline to make it seem like they are in Seattle.
It is a little jarring to see that the Grey’s Anatomy set is not actually located in Seattle, but it does have a small bit of authenticity. The show has been filmed in Los Angeles for the past 15 seasons and it continues to be a favorite among TV viewers.
The Young and the Restless
In addition to the show’s main characters, General Hospital also features a large number of supporting characters. These include characters such as the Newmans, the Abbotts, and the Winters.
The Young and the Restless was first broadcast on March 26, 1973 as a half-hour episode five times per week, with the show expanding to one hour in February 1980. It is considered to be one of the longest-running soap operas.
Throughout the years, the show has changed characters and focused on different families. During its early years, the Brooks family was prominent and the Foster family was also seen on the series.
However, despite the changes and the many recasts and departures, the show’s main family remains the Newmans and the Abbotts. The show is still filmed in Los Angeles and is a popular program for fans of daytime television.
The Bold and the Beautiful
Since its debut in 1987, The Bold and the Beautiful has been a hit soap opera, focusing on the glamorous lives of the Forrester family. Its storylines explore entangled lives, passionate loves, high-stakes battles and loyalties.
As with other soaps, The Bold and the Beautiful often film scenes in exotic locations around the world. This season, for example, Hope Forrester (Kim Matula) was shot in a romantic wedding procession down the famous seaside promenade Lungomare Domenico Modugno along the Mediterranean coastline of Polignano a Mare.
The show has also recently filmed scenes for a new character, Kiki Jerome, a troublesome girlfriend of Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig) who got him involved in a dangerous gambling ring.
The long-running CBS soap has made a number of changes to ensure it can film love scenes safely, including regular testing, a COVID-19 coordinator and “love-scene doubles” as stand-ins for other actors when filming a scene. The show has also re-established its studio set at the historic CBS Television City, where it has been airing reruns since March when the coronavirus shut down the industry.
General Hospital
Since its 1963 launch, General Hospital has been a popular show that follows the stories of the lives of people in Port Charles, New York. The show focuses on love, families and friendships.
One of the most famous episodes was Luke and Laura’s (Anthony Geary and Genie Francis) 1981 wedding, which was the highest-rated episode of daytime television history.
The soap opera is currently the longest running American soap opera in production. It has been airing weekdays on ABC for 58 years, making it the U.S.’s oldest soap opera in operation, and still beats out UK’s Coronation Street for the title of oldest soap opera in the world.
While most soaps film inside their studio set, it’s not uncommon for GH to shoot scenes in different locations outside of LA. For example, a recent beach shoot was conducted by Cameron Mathison and Laura Wright in Malibu.
