Good Witch is a Hallmark Channel franchise that started with the first film in 2008. It has since evolved into six follow-up movies and a long-running television series.
The show takes place in the mystical town of Middleton, which is home to a number of magic-wielding residents. Despite being a fictitious location, Middleton has attracted a loyal audience due to the strong bonds of affection that can be seen between the characters.
Dundas
The popular Hallmark Channel show Good Witch is filmed in Dundas, Ontario. It's not very far from Hamilton, and many scenes were shot on Locke Street, which has a lot of little shops that are decorated like a mini street festival.
The home where Cassie (Catherine Bell) lives is known as Foxbar and was built around the time that Dundas became a town in 1847. But to fans of the series it is called Grey House and is where magic happens.
Despite being a cult favorite, the Hallmark series was cancelled in 2017, after 13 seasons and a strong fan base. The network said that the show had reached a "natural conclusion" after a remarkable run.
But there are some who believe that the cancellation was actually due to something else. The owner of the house where Good Witch was filmed, Lisa Heersink, told the Hamilton Spectator that she knew that the series was coming to an end when they filmed two endings for Season 7.
It's a pretty shame that they did this though, because the show was incredibly popular and had a loyal fan base. It also made Hallmark history as the first LGBTQ+ couple to kiss on a Hallmark Channel original series.
Cambridge
If you’re a fan of Good Witch, then you know that this Hallmark show is a cozy fantasy with plenty of touches of magic. It follows enchantress Cassie Nightingale (Catherine Bell) as she deals with the trials of raising her daughter Grace and her own family.
Cambridge was the filming location for a lot of scenes in season 6. They dressed up various storefronts on Ainslie Street North to become Bridgeport, Frank and Joe Hardy’s fictional hometown.
The Hardy Boys also filmed in Cambridge for seasons 1 and 2. Fun Film Fact: For continuity, the Lion’s Club on Ainslie Street North was transformed into the Barrington on the Bay Sherriff’s Office!
The quaint town of Dundas, Ontario, is another frequent location for Good Witch. The show films a number of scenes there, including the iconic grey house that appears in many of the episodes. It’s reportedly known as Foxbar and the owners are accommodating to fans who want to visit the house.
Hamilton
The city of Hamilton was a major filming location for the popular Hallmark TV series, Good Witch. The show follows the lives of Cassie Nightingale (Catherine Bell) and her daughter Grace (Bailee Madison), who have a special ability that allows them to see magic.
The series filmed in several locations around Hamilton, including Liuna Station, Westfield Heritage Village, Dundurn Castle and Cambridge’s historic city hall and old post office. It also filmed scenes in Cambridge’s Valens Conservation Area.
During the filming of season 7, some clues were dropped that may have lead the production to consider ending the series in 2021. Fortunately, one resident who owned Grey House, the B&B where Cassie and Grace live, had an inkling things were about to change.
The home where Good Witch filmed was not the one that Cassie and Sam lived in, but it was a real-life 1847 home that owner Liz Heersink had been renting to the show since 2007. She is very accommodating to the fans who come knocking on her door, and donates money that she receives from the production to the Good Shepherd Centre in Dundas.
Toronto
Good Witch is a popular Hallmark series that has been around since 2015. The show came from the former made-for-television movies of the same name.
The series follows Cassie Nightingale, the owner of Grey House in Middleton. The main character is a Merriwick descendant who has a magical heritage.
While the show is set in Middleton, the cast often films in Toronto and Cambridge, Ontario. The towns have a rustic feel that fit the show perfectly.
The show's creators said they wanted to capture the mystical nature of Middleton in all their episodes, and that meant filming in three different locations. In Hamilton, they used a large convention center. In Toronto, they filmed at Cinespace Film Studios' Kipling Avenue facility and Pinewood Toronto Studios in Port Lands.
