where is great british baking show filmed

When you think of The Great British Baking Show, the first thing that comes to mind is that iconic white tent – but where is it actually filmed? The much-loved series has changed locations a few times over the years.

The first series was filmed at various locations across the UK, but for 2022 it returned to the Welford Park estate in Berkshire.

Welford Park

Welford Park is a grand country estate that is home to one of Britain's most loved TV shows. The Great British Baking Show is filmed at the estate, located near Newbury, Berkshire.

The grounds of Welford Park include picturesque gardens, an apple orchard, a wild flower meadow, woodland and farmland. The property is also known for its snowdrop collection, which thrives every winter and attracts a huge number of visitors.

In fact, the production crew has rented Welford Park for many series of the show, including the current tenth season. The grounds are so beautiful that it's no surprise the producers chose to film here.

While filming, the production team were catered for in the estate's tearoom by Deborah Puxley, who lives at Welford Park with her husband and two children. She told the Sunday Times that the team "really liked" the grounds between spring and summer, which gave them a new colour palette each week.

Down Hall Hotel

The Great British Bake Off returns later this month, with 12 amateur bakers looking to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith. This time, the tent is being filmed at Down Hall Hotel in Essex.

The 98-bedroom Victorian luxury hotel is located on 110 acres of country estate near Bishop's Stortford. It's a 45-minute drive from London.

Each room is a stylish retreat, with log fires, antiques and welcoming sofas creating an environment that's comfortable and homely. Beds feature down comforters and premium bedding, while plasma televisions keep you entertained.

You can also enjoy the Eden Spa, with four luxurious treatment rooms - ideal for a relaxing escape from everyday life.

Down Hall is also a popular choice for weddings, honeymoons and romantic rendezvous. It's partnered with Paradise Wildlife Park, which features a range of exotic animals from lions to tigers and life-sized dinosaurs.

Welbeck Abbey

Welbeck Abbey is one of the great traditional landed estates in England. It is the former home of the Cavendish-Bentinck family, who were dukes for nearly four centuries, and the estate stretches to 15,000 acres.

The Abbey was founded as a monastery in 1153, and after the Dissolution of the Monasteries was acquired by Sir Charles Cavendish, son of the great Bess of Hardwick. The estate has been passed down through the family for over 400 years.

Today, Welbeck Abbey is a boarding school - a college providing a two-year sixth-form education for boys who wish to take cadetships at Sandhurst. The present Duke of Portland lives in a smaller house, Welbeck Woodhouse, nearby.

The estate is also home to six grand State Rooms and an extensive fine art collection. The Harley Gallery and Foundation is named after Edward Harley, who married Charles Cavendish’s great-granddaughter Lady Henrietta Cavendish Holles, heiress to Welbeck in 1713. A number of estate buildings are now used as educational facilities or business enterprises.

Fulham Palace

Since its inception in 2010, GBBO has been filmed in various locations around the country, including Fulham Palace in London, Valentines Mansion in Redbridge and Harptree Court in Somerset. However, since 2014 the show has made its long-term home on the grounds at Welford Park in Berkshire, where the iconic white tent is pitched.

A picturesque stately home for the Bishops of London from the 11th century, Fulham Palace is now a popular tourist attraction. It offers a museum, art gallery and relaxed cafe/bar overlooking its extensive botanic gardens.

Several of the rooms at Fulham Palace are licensed for civil ceremonies and can be used as a wedding venue. There is also a beautiful chapel available for the blessing of marriage.

A grand historic venue, Fulham Palace boasts 13 acres of botanical gardens and rolling lawns - the perfect backdrop for your big day! The opulent rooms vary from Tudor to Georgian and are flooded with natural light, offering the perfect space for a lavish wedding.
