This pristine property has served as the backdrop for many Hollywood movies and TV shows. From Jurassic Park to Godzilla, Kualoa Ranch has set the stage for some of the world’s biggest blockbusters and popular television series like Hawaii Five-0.
Waialua Coffee Plantation
Located on the North Shore of Oahu, Waialua Coffee Plantation is a small, 155-acre coffee farm owned and operated by Dole Food Company Hawaii. It grows Arabica Typica Coffee in rich volcanic soil, with a warm sub-tropical climate bordered by dramatic mountains and tempered by the rolling Pacific surf.
The lands where the farm is located were once home to one of the largest sugar plantations in Hawaii. After the plantation closed in the 90’s, Dole began a diversified agricultural program to revitalize the land. The resulting product list includes tropical flowers, papayas, mangoes, cacao and coffee.
Ford Island
Ford Island is one of the most popular film locations in Hawaii. It is seen in many movies and television shows including Hawaii Five 0 and 50 First Dates.
In a recent episode, the cast of the show used the location to explore Honouliuli internment camp. This was a shameful part of Hawaii’s history that had been forgotten by most.
Barber’s Point Naval Station
Barbers Point Naval Station, formerly known as Marine Corps Air Station Ewa, was a naval base on the west coast of Oahu. The former Navy airfield was closed in 1999 and now serves as a film and television studio for the Hawaii State Film Office.
During World War II, Barbers Point was one of the busiest airfields in the world. It housed a large military community and was a vital staging area for ships carrying supplies to the front lines in the Pacific Theater of War.
Ala Moana Beach Park
Ala Moana Beach Park is an open space with a wide stretch of sand. It is a popular beach and park in Honolulu, Hawaii.
It is a place for joggers and walkers to enjoy the scenic view. The area is not as crowded on weekdays and can be a great spot to get some exercise.
The park has plenty of facilities like restrooms, showers, picnic tables and food concessions. There are also many tennis courts and a yacht club.
Hawaii Medical Center
Hawaii Five-0 was filmed on location in Honolulu for the majority of its 12 seasons. This included exterior shooting at a number of locations, including Ali’iolani Hale and Iolani Palace, as well as the Bayer Estate.
During filming, the show also incorporated a lot of Hawaiian history and culture into its storylines. In particular, the series featured a strong emphasis on the fight for Hawaiian sovereignty. This has resulted in a number of public service announcements that raise awareness about the issue.

It’s also worth visiting downtown Honolulu to see the historical Ali’iolani Hale, which served as Five-0 headquarters for the first eight seasons. It’s now a museum and home of the Hawaii State Supreme Court.
