Mike Holmes is best known for his long-running HGTV series "Holmes on Homes." He's now teaming up with his son and daughter to help fix shoddy construction.
The family has a home in Ontario, Canada and filming for their new show is taking place there. Here's where it's filmed and where you can watch the show.
Filming Locations
Canadian contractor Mike Holmes is gearing up for a new series. This time around, he’s taking on a family of homeowners who have had their renovations done wrong.
They’ve paid for the work, but now they’re stuck with a house that’s not quite right. Fortunately, Mike’s family is here to help.
HGTV has plenty of home improvement shows on its roster, including Property Brothers and Fixer Upper. However, if you’re looking for something a little different, there’s Holmes Family Rescue.
The show is filmed in Ontario and Vancouver, according to its IMDb page. This makes sense because the Holmes family is based in Toronto.
During the show’s premiere, Mike and his family help a couple with young kids who were left with an unlivable basement that was riddled with structural problems. In addition, the crew helps a building trades teacher redesign and update his classroom space at Judith Nyman Secondary School in Brampton. They also renovate Solid State, a talent incubator and coworking space for immigrant and racialized youth in Surrey.
Cast
HGTV is one of the leading TV channels when it comes to reality home improvement shows, and Holmes Family Rescue is no exception. It follows the Holmes family as they fix up homes that have been neglected by a shoddy contractor.
Mike Holmes has been a fixture on HGTV since 2001 when he first appeared on HGTV Canada's Holmes on Homes. His show was a hit and helped him become a household name.
After the show ended, he continued to make appearances in other home-renovation shows as a contractor and as an expert. In 2010, Reader's Digest ranked him among the most trusted Canadians.
Now, Holmes is bringing his expertise to another renovation show called Holmes Family Rescue. This show also enlists his own family to help fix up homes that have been neglected by shoddy contractors.
Synopsis
HGTV is always on the lookout for home improvement shows to add to its lineup, and Holmes Family Rescue seems like it would fit right in. The series follows Mike Holmes and his kids, Sherry and Michael, as they assist homeowners who have been scammed by shoddy renovation work.
During the 12 episodes, Holmes and his family expose bad construction work and help their clients make it right. They do so while also displaying their own personal dedication and expertise.
In one episode, Holmes and his team rescue a couple who was tricked into paying for a contractor who left them with a mess of a kitchen. They then go on to renovate the home so that the couple can move in.
In another episode, Mike and his crew tackle a project that involves a motorcycle racer who is waving the white flag after she was scared off by a contractor. They also tackle a house that has dangerous gas leaks and shoddy workmanship.
Release Date
HGTV has officially ordered a second season of the home renovation series Holmes Family Rescue, and casting applications for Season 2 are now open. The newest series from the network was renewed after attracting over 25.5 million viewers during its debut season, which ranked in the top 3 non-news/sports cable programs for 25-to-54-year-old upscale viewers and among female upscales in the same age range.
The 12-episode new season will feature contractor Mike Holmes, his son Michael and daughter Sherry, who “make it right” for homeowners who have been victimized by careless or dishonest contractors. The team also aims to make a difference in their community by encouraging others to learn and enter the construction industry.
In the first episode, Mike, Sherry and Michael meet a couple with young kids who hired a contractor to renovate their basement but left them with structural problems. The trio completely overhauls the space, providing the family with a safe and livable rec room, toy storage, home office, laundry room and modern bathroom.
