where is masterchef filmed

MasterChef is one of the most popular cooking reality shows on television. It lets cooks compete for the chance to be a master chef and win a life-changing prize.

Usually, the show is filmed in a large soundstage that includes a kitchen and a dining room. But, the series has also filmed at a few restaurants around the world.

Burbank

Burbank, California is home to a lot of movie and TV studios. It also makes for an ideal location for a popular reality show like masterchef.

In MasterChef, amateur chefs compete against each other in a series of challenges overseen by judges Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich, and Graham Elliot to win $250,000 and the title of “MasterChef.” The contestants are eliminated one by one until only one remains.

Each episode of the show features a quickfire Mystery Box challenge or Skills Test followed by an Elimination Challenge. The winner is typically given immunity from elimination, a prize, or other benefit.

Each season, the top 30 cooks are then challenged in a number of different cooking competitions. These include feeding members of the Coast Guard, preparing vegan dishes, traveling to Horsetown USA in Norco, California to feed cowboys, and more.

Los Angeles

The popular Fox show is filmed in a variety of locations, but the majority of it is shot at a production studio in Los Angeles. The show has a diverse cast including multi-Michelin star chefs Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and Aaron Sanchez.

Season 12 of the cooking competition is centered on redemption, where All-Star competitors from previous seasons return to fight for their chance to win the coveted MasterChef trophy they missed the first time around. This year, a group of 20 All-Stars will go through an all new cycle in which they must face the toughest challenges and prove they have what it takes to compete with some of the most memorable and talented cooks to ever grace the show.

The top 18 contestants will travel to the U.S. Coast Guard Base in Los Angeles for a team challenge in which they will feed more than 100 brave service members. They will also have to battle their way through a high-stakes pressure test, where they will be given the opportunity to take over a chef’s kitchen and prepare a meal for the entire restaurant.

London

MasterChef is filmed in East London, at 3 Mills Studios. Before moving to this location, the show was mainly filmed in City University's Bastwick Street Halls of Residence or at Ram Brewery.

But now, the show is undergoing a complete makeover. The former Banana Warehouse on Fazeley Street in Digbeth will now become the show’s new home, after Birmingham City Council gave its approval.

The former Banana Warehouse will now house a new sound stage, studios and an outdoor filming area for the show. And it will also provide dressing rooms for the contestants.

However, the BBC is not the only one looking to move to this location. Shine TV, which produces MasterChef, has been in talks with Birmingham City Council about moving to the building, and now it has received planning consent.

It’s a sign of how popular the show is that it can be filmed in such a busy location. But, of course, the location doesn’t stop people from wondering where it is.

Australia

MasterChef Australia is the first version of the series to be filmed outside of the UK. It started in Sydney, and remained based there until Season 4.

The series is now filmed at a sprawling events complex on the Melbourne Showgrounds. It's an ideal location for a cooking competition, as it's close to the city's best eateries.

As well as filming in the kitchen, the show also travels to Sydney for some of the Off Site Challenges. In Season 7, contestants took over the observation wheel at the Melbourne Star, which offers stunning views across the city's skyline.

Another interesting Off Site Challenge in Season 10 saw the contestants cook at Bondi Icebergs Club, which is a club with a pool that's open to the public. The restaurant is a favourite among food lovers, and you can even book a table for yourself here.
