where is ncis hawaii filmed

NCIS Hawaii is set to premiere this fall, and fans are anxiously awaiting the series' arrival. But where is ncis hawaii actually filmed?

The showrunners use multiple locations across one of the Aloha state's major islands. Here are a few of the most popular filming spots.

Oahu

Oahu is a popular filming location for a variety of shows, including NCIS. The island is known for its breathtaking beaches, beautiful cliffs and delicious cuisine.

The island is also home to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, the main filming facility for NCIS: Hawaii. Additionally, it is home to Waikiki Beach, a popular tourist destination.

Another frequently filmed site is the North Shore of Oahu, which is home to some of the best surf spots in the world. Kualoa Ranch, a sprawling property famous for the filming of 'Jurassic Park', is also a frequent filming site for NCIS: Hawaii.

Waikiki Beach

Waikiki Beach is the most popular tourist destination in Hawaii, and it’s also a bustling neighborhood with a variety of shops, restaurants and bars. It’s home to many high-rise hotels, as well as the famous Kalakaua Avenue, a street lined with designer fashion stores and hula shows.

NCIS: Hawai’i is set in the Aloha State, and according to Real Hawaii, filming was taking place on various locations across Oahu. This includes Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, a US military base eight miles adjacent to Honolulu City, as well as the Hawaiian Film Studio.

The first season of NCIS: Hawai’i premiered on September 20, 2021, and is centered on Jane Tennant (Lachey), the first female Special Agent in Charge of NCIS Pearl Harbor. The show follows her and her unflinching team of specialists as they balance family and country while investigating high-stakes crimes involving national security, and the mysteries that lie within this sun-drenched island paradise.

Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam

When it comes to filming in Hawaii, a lot of the action takes place on the North Shore. However, production on 'NCIS Hawai'i' also filmed scenes in-studio as well.

The series is based on the fictional team of special agents from the Naval Crime Investigative Service whose office is located in Pearl Harbor. The show's premise has been tweaked and moved to a tropical island setting, but it will still feature the same crime-solving action that NCIS fans know and love.

The show's producers are hoping to use the same production facilities that were built for 'Hawaii Five-0' -- a 7.5-acre lot and 16,500-square-foot sound stage just a 15-minute drive from Honolulu. 'NCIS Hawai'i' is set to premiere on CBS in September 2021. Larry Teng, a veteran of 'Hawaii Five-0', will direct the pilot and Episode 2.

North Shore

The North Shore is one of the most popular locations in Oahu, known for its surfing and beaches. It’s also a great place to see some stunning scenery and enjoy a Hawaiian sunset.

A woman on a surfboard swings above the ocean while surrounded by beautiful waves at a North Shore beach in Hawaii. There’s a no swimming sign and rip current warning signs as the waves roll in.

NCIS Hawaii is a spin-off of the long-running NCIS series and stars Vanessa Lachey as Special Agent Jane Tennant. She and her team investigate cases involving military personnel, national security, and the island itself, all while balancing their personal lives and commitments to family and country.

Kualoa Ranch

Kualoa Ranch is home to hundreds of movie and TV scenes. It's also a very popular place for tourists and locals to visit.

Located on the eastern Windward side of Oahu, Kualoa Ranch spans over 4,000 acres and is home to several beautiful waterfalls, rivers, and lakes. It's a favorite location for many Hollywood movies and television shows, including Jurassic Park, Kong: Skull Island, 50 First Dates, Hawaii Five-0, and Magnum P.I.

During the 18th century, King Kamehameha III sold a portion of his lands to Gerritt P. Judd, a missionary doctor who was committed to preserving this area's cultural and historical significance. Today, Kualoa Ranch is still owned by Judd's descendants and offers a variety of tours to help keep the area undeveloped and pristine for future generations.
