Where is Peaky Blinders Filmed?

March 11, 2023

The BBC gangster show Peaky Blinders is set in Birmingham, but the city isn’t its only filming location. In fact, a lot of the show is filmed in other cities across England.

One of the most iconic scenes in series one was Formby Beach in Liverpool where Tommy Shelby confronted Alfie Solomons, and took his life after an epic standoff.

Small Heath

Small Heath is an area of Birmingham where the Peaky Blinders were known to operate in the 19th century and early 20th century. Writer Steven Knight, who is from Birmingham originally, used family legends to develop the series which follows crime boss Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and his family as they expand their gangland empire.

Set in the 1920s, the drama follows the Shelby family’s odyssey through British society. It’s filmed all over the UK, in locations that best transport viewers back in time.

Arley Hall

The BBC's hit series Peaky Blinders focuses on the rise of Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy. It's set against the backdrop of industrial Birmingham and a fascist era.

As the Shelby family begin to build their wealth, they move out of Small Heath and back into Tommy's manor house in Arley Hall, Cheshire. Guests can visit the historic house and its gardens during special open days just two or three times a year.

During this time, visitors can explore Arley Hall's mahogany halls and opulent dining room. It's also home to a huge collection of antique furniture and artefacts from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Admiral Grove & Powis Street

In post-WWI Birmingham, the Shelby family lead a gang of thugs called Peaky Blinders. Inspector Chester Campbell (Sam Neill) decides to take down the gang and put an end to their illegal activities.

The series has filmed in a variety of places around Britain to recreate the bygone era. For example, Tommy Shelby's grand manor, Arley Hall, has been a filming location since season three.

Fans of the show can visit the house if they're in the area and take a tour. Aunt Polly's suburb home is also a model industrial village filmed in Port Sunlight, a model village that was created to house workers at the nearby soap factory.

It's worth a visit if you're a fan of the show and are looking for more Peaky Blinders-themed things to do in the UK. It's been a popular TV show for many years, and fans will be delighted to know that it's back for another series.

Stanley Dock

Throughout Peaky Blinders, Liverpool’s Stanley Dock is a key location that features in many of the show’s scenes. Designed by Jesse Hartley, the dock was once one of the largest and most complete systems of historic docks in the world.

It is also home to the Stanley Dock Tobacco Warehouse – the city’s oldest Grade II listed building. Standing 125 feet tall and made of 27 million bricks, this impressive warehouse was built in 1901.

Harcourt Developments bought the Stanley Dock part of the conservation area in 2010 and saw an opportunity to use the restoration of this iconic building as a catalyst for the regeneration of the neighbouring area. They began work on site in January 2013 with the conversion of the North Warehouse and the Rum Warehouse into a hotel and events venue.

Port Sunlight

Peaky Blinders is one of the most popular period dramas on TV. Fans of the show are engrossed in the storyline and don't want to miss anything happening.

The show is shot in several locations throughout the UK, with some filming taking place in Cheshire. Some locations are popular with fans, while others haven't been used but are still worth a visit for those interested in period dramas.

Port Sunlight is a picturesque garden village and a conservation area near Bebington on Wirral. The village was created by soap magnate William Hesketh Lever in 1888 and is home to 900 Grade II listed buildings set in 130 acres of parkland and gardens.
