The Showtime comedy-drama Shameless is set in Chicago, but much of the series is filmed in Los Angeles. Despite this, the cast travels to Chicago to film exterior shots of the Gallagher House and other locations for two weeks each season.
The house in Shameless is actually located in the real-life neighborhood of Canaryville on the South Side of Chicago. But it's not as run-down as it appears on TV.
The Gallagher House
If you're a fan of Shameless, you know that the Gallagher family home is an iconic part of the series. It's a run-down house in a rough neighborhood, but if you want to get a glimpse of it in person, there's an opportunity to visit the location.
The home is located in the Canaryville area of Chicago, known for its large Irish population. It was constructed in 1912 and is now a family-owned home.
It's also a popular spot for taking photos. The house's owner opens up his gate to Shameless fans, who can take pictures on the porch with a $5 donation.
In the series, Fiona's husband Sean is a heroin user. When Frank comes to their wedding, he tells the congregation that he's been using. This breaks Fiona's heart.
Despite Carl's attempts to help Fiona, she continues to turn away from the drug life. As a result, Fiona loses her bedroom and retreats to Sean's place.
In the third season, Patrick tricks Fiona into selling the house to him; he then becomes her landlord. During this season, Fiona's relationships with her siblings continue to progress. She bonds with Will and Ian, and she struggles with her bipolar disorder. Meanwhile, Debbie moves back in with the Gallaghers after being terminated by the Wexlers.
The Alibi Room Bar
The Alibi Room Bar is a bar in Culver City, California. It offers patrons a cosy atmosphere and patient service all year round.
The bar serves food from chef Roy Choi and a wide selection of beers on tap, plus wine and cocktails. It also has a takeout window that turns out taco combos (choice of short rib, bbq chicken or spicy pork), quesadillas and burritos.
During season nine, the Alibi Room was visited by everyone from the Gallagher family to Kermit. It was also used to film the scene where Frank gets a heart transplant.
In a storyline that revolves around Butterface and Stan, Kevin goes to the Alibi Room to complain about his life. While he’s there, he starts talking about the fact that Sheila leaves the house now and he doesn’t know her well.
He then tells Sheila that she doesn’t know him very well, and that he needs to find out if he is still with her. He later finds out that Sheila left the house, and he was talking to her about Butterface.
At one point in the series, Frank takes a trip to Lake Michigan. He drinks a beer and enjoys the view.
