Supernatural is a TV series where brothers Sam and Dean Winchester travel to different locations all over the United States in their quest to hunt monsters. If you're a fan of the show, you may be wondering where some of these scenes are filmed.
Thankfully, many of these settings are actually real businesses, bars, motels, and more. The majority of the time, these places are repurposed for the show's use.
Vancouver
In recent years, Vancouver has become a hot spot for Hollywood productions. With its scenic landscape and attractive tax benefits, many filming locations in British Columbia have been repurposed for a wide range of movies and TV shows.
The Canadian city has become a popular filming location for American fantasy, sci-fi and superhero television series such as Supernatural, Smallville, Arrow, The Flash, Fringe, Once Upon a Time and iZombie.
As a result, Vancouver is home to several set location tours. For hardcore fans, it is an ideal opportunity to hunt down all the best filming locations in Vancouver for their favorite shows!
Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles recently made a rare appearance in Gastown for an epic two-day shoot. Local fans were all over Twitter for the chance to see the Winchester brothers and their signature black Impala.
Los Angeles
The longest-running horror TV series ever is Supernatural, which consists of two brothers named Sam and Dean Winchester who hunt monsters and demons. Filming in Canada’s scenic Vancouver, the show uses a wide range of real locations including businesses, bars, motels and cemeteries.
For many of these locations, the production crew uses an art department to transform them into something else entirely. But what about some of the show’s most iconic settings?
For example, in the first episode, Sam and Dean go to the set of The O.C., another popular show aimed at a young teen demographic. While there, they meet the producer of Supernatural, McG.
New Orleans
If you’ve ever been to New Orleans, you know it’s not only home to some of the best food in the country, but also to a number of popular television shows and movies. From American Horror Story to The Vampire Diaries, these productions have all found a way to feature the city.
The city’s history has a lot to do with its reputation for the paranormal, including vampires and witches. So it’s no surprise that the French Quarter and Lafayette cemetery are both used as filming locations for some of the episodes of The Originals.
The series follows Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan), his sister Rebekah (Claire Holt), and their vampire-werewolf hybrid brother Elijah (Daniel Gillies) as they try to navigate the witch-vampire politics in New Orleans. They’re joined by Hayley Marshall (Phoebe Tonkin), who is pregnant with Klaus’ baby.
Texas
The CW's popular horror series Supernatural stars two Texas brothers who travel the country looking for ghosts and monsters. The show has been running for fifteen seasons, making it the longest-running supernatural show on TV.
Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are both Texas natives who live in Austin, where they film the show. They chose to shoot the series in the United States so they can stay close to their families.
As if that wasn't enough, Supernatural also filmed in Vancouver, Canada, which is a great location for the show because of its sunny weather and blue-ish coloring. It's also the same place where The Flash, Charmed and iZombie have been filmed!
The Southwestern setting of Albuquerque, New Mexico, is another excellent match for Midnight, Texas. The city is famous for its Southwestern architecture, which bled into the design of the show's backdrop.
