where is the lost daughter filmed

Netflix's The Lost Daughter has become a favorite for many thanks to its incendiary story and stunning production locations. But where exactly did the filming take place?

The movie originally started out in the United States, but it was later filmed on the Greek island of Spetses. The decision to move to Greece was made due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which imposed restrictions on shooting in the US.

If you’ve been watching the Netflix film The Lost Daughter, then you may have noticed that the main character Leda Caruso (Olivia Colman) spends her vacation on the Greek island of Spetses. This quaint little spot in Greece is famous for its beautiful pine trees and jasmine-scented air.

As you can imagine, the island is a great spot for filming. Its pristine beaches and tranquil stretches of sand make for a perfect location to shoot scenes of a psychological drama.

The film was adapted from Elena Ferrante’s novel of the same name and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal. Starring Olivia Colman, Dakota Johnson, Ed Harris, and Jessie Buckley, The Lost Daughter was a critical success at the Venice International Film Festival and has since won awards and accolades across the board.

Although the movie is set in Spetses, it actually filmed in several different locations throughout the town and its surrounding areas. Most of the shots were taken on the island’s coastline, but some key scenes took place in more inland areas.

One of the most popular filming spots in Spetses is Zogeria Beach, a cove with a dazzling blue sea and plenty of greenery. The secluded beach is one of the most beautiful in all of Greece, according to Conde Nast Traveller.

Another important filming location in Spetses is the Anargyrios and Korgialenios School, a boarding school with a long and rich history. This affluent English-style school was built in the 1920s and is a cultural and historical treasure.

If you’re planning to visit Spetses in the near future, you can’t miss out on a tour of this historic boarding school. A guide can show you around this unique and beautiful site, giving you a glimpse into its unique history and revealing the true beauty of this secluded location.

You can also rent a bike to explore this area and its cobblestone streets, as well as the nearby Bouboulina Museum. If you’re not a fan of cycling, there are plenty of taxis to get you around in style.

Paralia Zogeria

One of the best things about Netflix's latest original film, The Lost Daughter, is that it was filmed on a stunning Greek island. Spetses is an affluent destination known for its natural beauty and sophisticated style. It's no wonder that it's such a popular filming location for films, TV shows and even weddings.

The plot is based on the novel by Elena Ferrante and stars Oscar winner Olivia Colman as Leda, a divorced middle-aged college professor running from her troubled relationship with her daughter. During her holiday in Greece, she becomes consumed with a young mother and daughter (played by Olivia Colman and Dakota Johnson) who are struggling with their past.

As the story is told from Leda's perspective, we get to see her unravelling as she reminisces about the terror and confusion of early motherhood. This is a very interesting and captivating part of the story, and it also makes for a very moving and dramatic film.

Although the movie is essentially a thriller, it also contains elements of horror and romance. This is mainly thanks to the fact that the movie was shot on the beautiful and scenic Paralia Zogeria beach, which is a small cove in the north-western part of Spetses.

Interestingly, it was a challenge to find a kitchen stove in Greece that looked like an American stove, but production designer Inbal Weinberg managed to source a couple of them and then shipped them across the ocean to the island. The team then used them to create a few of the interior scenes in The Lost Daughter.

The rest of the movie was shot at various locations throughout the town of Spetses, including the Anargyrios & Korgialenios School of Spetses and the Zogeria Restaurant. The Anargyrios & Korgialenios school is a traditional Greek school that features beautiful marble floors and ceilings and was used to film several key scenes in the movie. It is also a popular tourist destination and visitors can even book tickets in advance to watch movies at the beautiful Cine Titania.
