Amazon's new epic fantasy series The Wheel of Time has taken the world by storm. Based on Robert Jordan's best-selling novels, the series follows Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), a member of the powerful all-female organisation Aes Sedai, as she embarks on a quest that could save or destroy humanity.
The first season of the show was filmed in several stunning locations around Europe. Among them are Prague, Croatia and Slovenia.
Prague
Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with its gorgeous pastel houses and amazing art. It has been the home of many blockbuster movies, including Les Miserables, and was also a location for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.
The city is also a favorite for film makers thanks to its low production costs, skilled local crews and a supportive government. It has a Film Industry Support Programme that offers a 20% rebate on certain production costs, which is especially helpful to international companies.
The Wheel of Time filming took place mainly in and around Prague, but there were scenes filmed in other locations as well. One of these was a moss-covered mill called Dolsky mlyn, located in the northwest part of the country. Another was a studio built in the capital’s Letnany district.
Croatia
Amazon Prime's newest original series, The Wheel of Time, is based on the epic fantasy novels of Robert Jordan. The show follows Rosamund Pike's character Moiraine as she navigates a sweeping world of magic and mystery.
Like many epic genre shows, The Wheel of Time filmed in several key locations to help bring the story to life. Among the most popular filming destinations are Prague, Slovenia, and Croatia.
During the first season, production primarily centered around Prague's Jordan Studios. Named after author Robert Jordan, the facility has a huge 32,000 square foot space with multiple sound stages that are used to film scenes.
The series also filmed in the Bovec region of Slovenia, which is famed for its gorgeous mountainous backdrops. Additionally, Dubrovnik, Croatia, was a popular location for a variety of city shots.
Filming for Season 2 is already underway, so we should expect to see even more stunning locations in the future. The cast and crew have already made a trip to the Canary Islands (Spain) and Morocco, so we're sure they will be returning again soon!
Slovenia
Based on Robert Jordan's best-selling fantasy novels, Amazon Prime Video's new epic series The Wheel of Time could rival Game of Thrones. It follows Rosamund Pike's wizard Moiraine as she journeys across a fantasy world where witches and dragons roam.
A major part of the first season was filmed in and around Prague, but there were also some spectacular locations dotted throughout Slovenia and Croatia. Shots of towering mountain passes, raging rivers, and even the Adriatic coastline were filmed here, while some of the more dramatic forest scenes took place in Dubrovnik.
In the pilot episode, a scene where Egwene and Rand sit on a stunning mountainside to discuss their future was filmed in the Great Soca Gorge, which is a popular spot for whitewater rafting. The gorge is located about 75 miles northwest of Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Another memorable scene in the show takes place when Nynaeve pushed Egwene off of a cliff into a river. The scene was filmed in the Rakov Skocjan Valley, which is a popular tourist destination due to its many caves.

If you're a fan of fantasy TV on Amazon Prime Video, chances are you've heard about The Wheel of Time. Based on Robert Jordan's 1990s fantasy novels of the same name, the show charts a vast world that features a number of different cultures and historical eras.
The series also follows the incredibly powerful Aes Sedai -- a group of women who can channel magic -- as they travel around the world on a quest to find the Dragon. A Dragon, in Jordan's universe, is the most powerful individual in the world and can either heal or destroy.
In the first season of The Wheel of Time, we see Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) take her five young heroes to a remote village called Two Rivers, where she finds out one of them might be the reincarnation of the Dragon. That's a pretty big deal, and it definitely makes for a harrowing journey.
If you're a fan of the show, you may be wondering where the filming took place and when we can expect the second season to drop. Luckily, we've got you covered!
