In the History Channel's hit Vikings, blood, gore, war, battle, and relationships are portrayed in a magnificent way. The show has taken viewers to some of the most picturesque travel destinations around the world.
Many of the scenes that were filmed for the first two seasons of Vikings were shot in County Wicklow, Ireland, which is located just south of Dublin. Ashford Studios, also located in Wicklow County, was used for filming in the third season.
There are many locations throughout Ireland that are filmed on the show and one of the most stunning is Luggala Estate in County Wicklow. This beautiful estate is the ancestral home of the Guinness brewing family and has a long history of hosting celebrities.
Luggala Lodge is a Gothic-style mansion that is a huge attraction to anyone visiting the estate. It has seven bedrooms, three reception rooms and four bathrooms.

The estate is a mix of upland blanket bog, dry heath, acid grassland, meadows, mixed woodlands and two large lakes.
They are all managed by the farm manager Michael Keegan who has a team of full time employees restoring the upland ecosystems on the estate. He is actively involved in rewetting, reactivating and protecting the upland habitats from peat harvesting and grazing damage.
The property has a huge amount of history and it is currently up for sale through Sotheby’s International Realty.
The popular Vikings TV series is based on the tales of famous Norse hero Ragnar Lothbrok (portrayed by Travis Fimmel). The story follows Ragnar's life, conquests, family, descendants, and crew as he sails across Scandinavia, Kievan Rus, North America, England, North Africa, and the Mediterranean.
The show's first few seasons were filmed in Ireland, where the production team sought out locations to best represent the landscape of medieval times. The filming locations included lush green rolling hills and serene and treacherous coastlines that doubled as the backdrop for the most pivotal and entertaining moments on the series.
As the popularity of the show grew, the production team began looking at other international filming locations like Vik in Norway and Morocco. These new Vikings locations were used for the filming of Floki's (Gustaf Skarsgard) trip to Iceland and Bjorn Ironside's (Alexander Ludwig) visit to Sicily in season 5.
Among Ireland’s filming locations for Vikings, there is the gorgeous cliff-top beach of Nuns Beach in Ballybunion. The beach is a part of a scenic cliff walk with incredible views of sea stacks and other natural wonders.
The beach gets its name from the Convent that stands at the top of the cliffs and it was used in past times by the resident nuns as a private bathing area. Access to the beach is a bit of a challenge and requires a scramble down the steep track with the help of a rope.
Another waterway featured in the show is Blessington Lakes, a stunning place to visit in County Wicklow. These lakes cover 500 acres of land and are a great setting for longship scenes.
Vikings was filmed primarily in Ireland, although a few scenes were filmed in Norway and Iceland. The show is set in the Middle Ages and follows a group of Viking raiders as they travel across Europe in search of gold and wealth.

The Blessington Lakes are also another important filming location for the show. These lakes are located in the Wicklow Mountains and cover 500 acres of water.
