where is walking dead filmed

If you love zombies, The Walking Dead is a must-watch TV series. And if you’re a fan of the show, you probably want to know where it was filmed.

Luckily, the show is shot almost entirely in and around Georgia. So, you can easily go on a walker-filled adventure and visit some of the best filming locations.

Rick’s House

Rick’s house, which was only brought into the show for the pilot, is actually located in Atlanta and sits near historic Grant Park and the zoo. It’s a perfect example of why Georgia has become “Walking Dead Country” for fans.

The Walking Dead is a very popular TV series, and it’s no surprise that much of its production was done in Georgia. This is because of the state’s versatile offerings and the tax incentives that large productions can take advantage of.

Senoia is a city in Georgia that has become known as “Walking Dead Country.” It’s one of the most recognizable locations on the show and a place that has become a must for fans. There are many filming locations around town, from the Alexandria Safe-Zone to the Hilltop mansion.

Senoia, Georgia is the home of many filming locations for The Walking Dead. During its run, the series has helped keep Senoia’s economy alive by attracting tourists from around the world.

One of the most popular filming locations is Alexandria, a small community south of downtown Senoia. This is where Rick and the survivors make their camp after Hershel’s farm was destroyed in Season 2.

The village of Alexandria has a windmill that towers over its metal walls. While fans can’t enter the building, they can see it from a distance or take a tour.

Driftwood Beach

In mid-August, Jekyll Island’s pristine beaches will become the latest filming location for AMC’s The Walking Dead. The show will film scenes on Driftwood Beach, according to Action News Jax.

This beach, located on the northern end of Jekyll Island, is popular among vacationers and locals alike. It’s accessible via several access points off of N. Beachview Drive, and parking is free.

The Walking Dead’s crew had to deal with nesting season for the island’s sea turtles, and it was important that the production team adapted their lighting. Thankfully, that worked out for the crew.

Atlanta Mission

AMC's hit zombie apocalypse series, The Walking Dead, is filmed in Georgia. And there are plenty of famous filming locations around the state that can make a good day out for fans who love the show.

When Rick Grimes wakes up from his coma, he finds himself in a new world, inhabited by living dead. He learns that the zombies have infected all of the people in Atlanta, and it's up to him to lead a group of survivors to safety.

During Season 1 of The Walking Dead, Rick's hospital is actually an administrative building of the Atlanta Mission, a non-profit that offers emergency shelter, transitional housing, job training, counseling, addiction recovery, and spiritual support. It's located at 2353 Bolton Rd NW, Atlanta.

Jackson Street Bridge

The Jackson Street Bridge is a popular photo spot for fans of the hit show. It overlooks the highway that Rick Grimes rode his horse into Atlanta in the pilot episode and offers a perfect opportunity for a shot.

It was once slated for demolition, but a group of local residents, businesses and philanthropists fought for its preservation. It earned second-place honors in the Bridgehunter’s Chronicles awards program for best example of a restored historic bridge.

It is currently undergoing a placemaking project through the City Planning Department’s Placemaking Program that reconfigures traffic and bike lanes to create safer and more vibrant spaces for people. The plan calls for a new pedestrian area that extends beyond the sidewalk and incorporates interesting seating, raised planters with colorful plantings, ADA access, and possibly bike racks.
