where is wheel of time filmed

Based on the best-selling novels by Robert Jordan, The Wheel of Time is a fantasy series that takes place in an imagined world ruled by the light and terrorized by the dark. It stars Rosamund Pike as Moiraine, a member of the powerful all-female organization known as the Aes Sedai.

Jordan Studios

The Wheel of Time is Amazon's latest epic fantasy series based on Robert Jordan's beloved books of the same name. It follows Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), a powerful member of the Aes Sedai, a group of women who can use magic. She takes a group of young people on an epic journey, believing that one of them is the reincarnation of the Dragon - the most powerful being in the world.

To film scenes of the massive cities and stunning landscapes that characterize this universe, the Wheel of Time production set up a brand new studio in Prague's Letnany district called Jordan Studios. This 32,000 square meter space was built specifically for the show and is home to multiple sound stages.

The series also filmed in the Bovec region of Slovenia, which featured beautiful mountain backdrops, and Dubrovnik, Croatia, which lent the production a medieval aesthetic similar to that found in HBO's Game of Thrones. The Canary Islands (Spain) and parts of Morocco were also used to film a few shots.

Pravcicka Brana

If you've been following the epic fantasy series Wheel of Time, you'll know that it was filmed in several stunning locations across Europe. The Czech Republic is a key region for the show, and many scenes were filmed here, especially in and around Prague.

Pravcicka Brana is the largest natural sandstone arch in Europe and an iconic filming location of The Wheel of Time. Located deep within the Bohemian Switzerland National Park in the Czech Republic, it's worth a trip to see this imposing structure.

There's a restaurant inside the gate to pay your entry fee, and there are some beautiful viewpoints along the trail. Bonus: If you visit in the spring or fall, there will be fewer tourists and you'll have more room to enjoy the hike!

Great Soca Gorge

The emerald green Soca River paves the way through narrow rocky gorges, carved canyons and natural pools. Whether you want to take in its beauty on foot, by boat or on a rafting tour, there’s something for everyone.

If you’re looking to get up close and personal with the emerald river, a good way to do this is by hiking along the Soca Trail. The trail hugs the river, offering stunning views of the water as well as bridge crossings throughout the hike.

You can also visit the Great Soca Gorge, which is located along the Bovec-Vrsic road, around 11 kilometres from Bovec (turn right for the Lepena Valley and cross the bridge). This gorge is 750 m long, just a few metres wide and up to 15 m deep, opening up into deep basin-like pools of turquoise water.

This gorge is one of the highlights of the Triglav National Park, and it’s definitely worth visiting while you’re here. You can explore it by taking the Soca Trail or by following a country track that winds past shepherd’s little tin huts and tiny villages before ending at the top of the gorge.

Northern Velebit National Park

Straddling two distinct climate regions, rare plants and animals live here. They make their home in a landscape of forests, valleys, mountains, caves, and supernatural-looking rock formations.

Northern Velebit National Park is a patchwork of the most diverse habitats in Croatia. A wealth of flora and fauna that has not yet been fully discovered makes this national park one of the most interesting places to visit in Croatia.

The Velebit Botanical Garden is another must-see attraction in this area. You can see many rare species of plants, including the Velebit degennia and Croatian sibirea, here.

The National Park also offers hikers a wide range of trails to explore the different landscapes of the Velebit massif. Some of the most popular hiking routes include the Premuzic Trail, which is famous for its breathtaking views.
