When Calls the Heart is one of the most popular Hallmark Channel shows. It’s based on Janette Oke’s books and follows the story of Elizabeth Thatcher, who moves to Hope Valley (originally Coal Valley) in the early 20th century Canadian West.
The series’ filming locations are incredibly picturesque, with stunning mountain views and quaint town squares. If you’re a fan of the show, it’s worth a trip to see them in person.
Coal Valley
The quaint mining town of Coal Valley, now known as Hope Valley, is so gorgeous in When Calls the Heart that many fans have wondered where it is filmed. Based on Janette Oke’s bestselling book series, the show transports viewers to Western Canada in the early 20th century.
The cast of the show takes advantage of the stunning mountain views and charming towns to give viewers an immersive experience while also paying homage to the history of these locations. One such location is the Fraser River Railway Bridge which was built in 1884 and still stands today.
In addition to the quaint town of Coal Valley, When Calls the Heart also visits other on-location sites. These include mountain trails, homesteads and farms.
The production team has taken great care in recreating the town of Coal Valley so it looks just as authentic as possible. This includes building a replica of the town hall and other buildings.
