where is yellowstone filmed in texas

VENUS, Texas – This small north-central town was the place to be Tuesday as Kevin Costner and crews filmed a scene for a future episode of the popular television series "Yellowstone."

The show centers around John Dutton (Kevin Costner), who owns the largest ranch in Montana. He and his family must defend it from developers, Indian reservations and Yellowstone National Park.

Bozeman

The first three seasons of Yellowstone were filmed in and around Utah, but the show will be moving to Montana for season 4. This is in response to a tax incentive scheme offered by the state.

Filming is currently taking place at the Chief Joseph Ranch, which is a real working cattle and guest ranch in Darby, Montana. The log mansion from the series is actually a family home, but they rent out two cabins (the Ben Cook Cabin and Fisherman’s Cabin) for overnight guests when the show isn’t filming there.

Many of the scenes are filmed in the Bitterroot Valley, which is situated between western Montana and Idaho. It’s a picturesque area that offers spectacular views of the mountains.

Darby

If you’ve seen season 4 of Yellowstone, then you know that filming took place on the Chief Joseph Ranch near Darby, Montana. The 500,000-acre ranch shares its borders with the Broken Rock Indian Reservation and Yellowstone National Park, sparking various conflicts throughout the series.

The Dutton family’s home isn’t open to visitors, but the Chief Joseph Ranch rents out two cabins that have appeared on the show, including Lee’s cabin and Rip’s cabin from seasons 1 and 2. Rates start at $1,200 per night for up to 8 people.

In addition to filming at the Dutton ranch, the show’s principal locations include a number of other places across Montana, Utah, and Texas. Find out what these locations look like and where you can see them in our Yellowstone filming locations report below.

Taylor Sheridan, who created 'Yellowstone' with John Linson, was inspired by the real-life changes he saw happening in the highlands of the American West. He also sent his cast to 'cowboy camp,' a four-day training experience in the mountains of Utah, to ensure they could deliver authentic on-screen performances.

Hamilton

The picturesque town of Hamilton, Texas, is the seat of Hamilton County. This historic place is a great stop for travelers who want to see where the wild west comes to life.

The popular Paramount Network show Yellowstone, which is produced by Taylor Sheridan, filmed scenes in this small North Texas town last week. Mayor James Burgess told WFAA that the scene involves around 150 extras, a stage, and a podium.

It’s important to note, however, that the gubernatorial scenes from the latest season are shot inside the state capitol building in Helena, Montana.

So, if you want to go on a tour of the ranch or other shooting locations, you’ll have to drive a bit farther than you think.

In addition to the Dutton Ranch, the Broken Rock Indian Reservation in Montana is another filming location that doubles for other Paramount Network shows. This 2.2 million-acre Native American reservation is also a popular guest ranch for people who want to experience the wild west for themselves.

WestWorld of Scottsdale

WestWorld of Scottsdale is the city’s equestrian and special event facility. It’s home to the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction and hosts a variety of equestrian events and other major attractions.

The WestWorld Tony Nelssen Equestrian Center is a 300,000 square foot climate-controlled venue that includes the Equidome with seating for more than 3,300 guests and the Monterra catering facility. The complex is a year-round facility that draws some of the country’s most prestigious equestrian events and trade shows.

Yellowstone is a western family drama that centers on the Dutton family and their large Montana ranch. In the show, the ranch is in conflict with land developers, the Broken Rock Indian Reservation and Yellowstone National Park.

In reality, Yellowstone is filmed on the Chief Joseph Ranch near Darby, Montana. The ranch is a working cattle ranch that’s been in the same family since the 1860s, and it also has a gorgeous log cabin where the Dutton family lives.
