Essential Vitamins and Supplements to Balance Your Hormones

April 6, 2023

For women, unbalanced hormones can cause many issues that impact almost every aspect of their lives. There are many reasons why your hormones may fluctuate, such as perimenopause, polycystic ovarian syndrome, birth control, pregnancy, menstrual cycles, dietary changes, or mental health disorders.

If you are finding that you are having more mood swings, irregular menstrual cycles, weight changes, loss of energy, estrogen dominance, or trouble sleeping, there is a good chance your hormones are unbalanced. Thankfully, there are ways to get your hormones back in balance. On top of ensuring your diet is beneficial to your body, there are a number of vitamins and supplements you can take to help bring balance back to your hormones.

Magnesium

Considered one of the essential minerals for your body, magnesium is one of the best supplements to aid in balancing your hormones. You can ensure you get the proper amount of magnesium in your body in many ways. They can be in tablet form or a spray applied to your skin.

Arguably, though, getting your magnesium through the food you eat is most beneficial. Dark leafy greens, legumes, avocados, flax seeds, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, and dark chocolate are all great magnesium sources.

Avocados, specifically, are extra beneficial for your hormones. They are not only a great source of magnesium, but they also are full of vitamin K, potassium, and B vitamins. Furthermore, avocados are a great food to help you feel full if you fight fluctuating weight during hormonal fluctuations. Therefore, starting your day with some avocado toast is perfectly reasonable.

Some may have been surprised that dark chocolate is beneficial and is considered a magnesium-rich food. According to a study done, they found that dark chocolate contains prebiotic fiber, which supports your gut health. It is also full of antioxidants, minerals copper, manganese, and iron. Therefore, dark chocolate has impressive health benefits that can aid in balancing your hormones.

B Vitamins

Another supplement to take to ensure your hormones remain balanced is a high-quality B-complex vitamin. In total, there are nine B vitamins, and specific types of food contain various types of them.

An example is salmon. This fish is an excellent source of numerous types of B vitamins, such as B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, and B12. Leafy greens also contain folate, also known as B9. To get the full benefits, you will need to consume the greens, either raw or lightly steamed. Other foods containing various B vitamins are beef, oysters, chicken, yogurt, beans, and milk.

Probiotics

Another essential supplement to balance your hormones is probiotics. You must ensure the probiotic supplement you choose is high-quality, so you receive all the benefits. If you cannot find a supplement you like and trust, you can also eat foods to guarantee you are consuming a good amount of probiotics. These foods include kimchee, sauerkraut, miso, yogurt, kombucha, and kefir. There are also certain cheeses, such as mozzarella, that may contain beneficial bacteria and healthy probiotics.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids have a number of health benefits, and many types of food contain a high amount of these fatty acids that will help balance your hormones. The best food is fatty fish, such as salmon, sardines, herring, mackerel, and anchovies. However, you can also get your omega-3 by consuming walnuts, chia seeds, flax seeds, egg yolks, and hemp seeds. Although you can also find a high-quality supplement to take too.

Vitamin D3

As many as forty percent of Americans have a vitamin D deficiency. Because of this, taking a vitamin D supplement daily is vital, especially during the winter when the sun is not shining as often. This vitamin is especially essential because vitamin D is a hormone that communicates with other hormones. Therefore, it is necessary when you are trying to balance your hormones. Beyond laying in the sun and taking a daily supplement, you can also get more vitamin D by consuming fatty fish and egg yolks.

Balancing your hormones is vital as a woman. To maintain balance, you must take these essential vitamins and supplements.
