How to properly store your chainsaw during off-seasons? This is one of the most frequent questions that hit the minds of chainsaw users; especially, those users who are beginners. Technically, the service and efficiency you expect from your chainsaw are not only linked with its use but also associated with how it is stored during off-seasons. So, to make it easier for you, here you will find everything in answer to your question that “How to properly Store your Chainsaw During Off-Seasons”.

Therefore, if you intend to keep using your chainsaw for an extended number of years, you must know how to properly store your chainsaw during off-seasons.

How to Properly Store Your Chainsaw During Off-Seasons? – Step By Step Guide

If you take your chainsaw more seriously, you are surely adding years to its life. And storing the chainsaw is an inevitable part of the job which directly affects the efficiency and life of your power tool.

Whether you own an expensive chainsaw or you have a budget friendly chainsaw – the performance and life span of both of the tools will depend upon their maintenance, way of operating, and of course the way in which they are stored.

So, to provide you with a safe end on this matter, the followings are important steps that will help you properly store your chainsaw during off-seasons.

Step 1: Make your Chainsaw Empty

This is the first and the most important step. When it comes to storing your chainsaw, make sure that it is empty; otherwise, it can cause a serious problem for you when you will use it again. So, before you store your chainsaw, ensure to make the carburetor empty – if you do not do this, the carburetor diaphragm will stick together causing its destruction.

To do this, you should choose an empty area where you could avoid fuming. It is also recommended to add a stabilizer to fuel tank to avoid nasty things when you use it again. If you are doing this, you should run your chainsaw 4 to 5 minutes before you turn it off and store it for the off-season.

Step 2: Separate the Chain and Bar

The next step belongs to the separation of the chain and bar from the chainsaw. For this purpose, remove the casing of your chainsaw first, and then get the bar out of the head of the chainsaw. Here you can easily get the chain off from the guide bar.

Having separated the chain and the bar, you must clean the grooves, drive gears, bar, and chain as a next step. In short, you need to thoroughly clean the chainsaw before you store it.

Step 3: Adjust the Chain on the Bar

You can also store your chainsaw without attaching the bar and chain to the chainsaw. But for this purpose, you need to add some protective oil to the bar and chain; otherwise, they might fall for rust and become useless.

Meanwhile, if you want to reattach the bar and chain with a chainsaw, you can simply insert the bar into the chainsaw head and tighten the screw. Here you need to adjust the chain on the bar and for this purpose, you can take the chain away from the bar and then release it. If it sits back into its initial position, the tension in the chain will be fine. If it does not sit back, you should adjust the tension in the chainsaw chain.

Step 4: Clean the Air Filter

Here comes the 4th step which is very important to maintain the health of your chainsaw. Get the air filter out of the chainsaw, and clean it thoroughly. You can use a brush for this purpose or a blore as well.

But it is recommended to read the user manual that comes with the chainsaw. By reading that user manual you will be able to understand the instructions given by the manufacturer regarding the cleaning of the air filter. Remember, this is an unavoidable part of the job because a dirty filter can cause wear and tear in the internal combustion chamber.

Step 5: Remove the Spark Plug

If you are using a gas-powered chainsaw, the spark-plug appears to be the leading component that directly affects the starting mechanism of the chainsaw. If the spark plug becomes old enough, you may not be able to start your chainsaw and carry on your chores.

So, before you store your chainsaw, open the plug and add only one teaspoon of 2-cycle engine oil. Meanwhile, this is prime to inspect if the plug of your chainsaw is in good working condition or not. If there are sooty electrodes, it means that there is incomplete combustion.

Most of the time, problems associated with spark plugs are caused by a non-suitable mixture of fuel.

Step 6: Ready to Store

After following all the above-mentioned steps, you are ready to store your chainsaw for the off-season. Now, it is very important to decide the place where you will store your chainsaw; it should neither be stored in extremely hot nor in moisture. In both of these cases, there can appear malfunctioning in the chainsaw when you will start using it again.

It will be even better if you store your chainsaw wrapped in a clean towel or a piece of cloth. This is how you can save your chainsaw from dust and debris.

Therefore, these are six simple steps to let you know how to properly store your chainsaw during off-seasons. Following the aforementioned steps, you can take better care of your chainsaw during off-seasons.

Conclusion

Storing your chainsaw is not difficult, but it can be challenging for those who did not do this before. For the convenience of chainsaw users who are not familiar with an appropriate approach to storing the chainsaw during the offseason, there has been added a complete guide in simple steps.

Abiding by the above-given instructions, you will not only keep your chainsaw safe, but you will also be able to enjoy the maximum efficiency from your chainsaw when you will use it in season.
