Inside The Amityville Horror House

June 4, 2023

The Amityville Horror house is a house located in Amityville, NY. It is one of the most famously haunted homes in the country. Widely known because of the 1977 book "The Amityville Horror'', which came before the 1979 movie. There have also been several remakes and sequels of the movie throughout the years, including the 2005 movie, The Amityville Horror starring Ryan Reynolds. As the story goes, in 1974 Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered his entire family inside the home, claiming that he heard voices telling him to do it. A year later in 1975 married couple George and Kathy Lutz, with their three children, moved into the home. Throughout their time living in the home, the family claims to have experienced scary and unexplainable paranormal activity. After several blessings on the home by a priest, and intensified paranormal activity, the family and their children fled the home in the middle of the night and never returned. They also have refused to discuss in detail what the final chilling straw was that caused them to flee, explaining it was too terrifying to talk about. After their story was turned into a 1979 novel, and then dozens of movies the following decades, many people have claimed it to be just a hoax. Even though the original murders from DeFeo did occur, the haunting aspect has been disputed. Everyone that has lived in the home since the Lutz's fled claimed to have experienced no paranormal activity. George and Kathy Lutz did take a polygraph test in 1979, which came back as not lying. Whatever you believe to be true, the story is a terrifying one. I personally wouldn't take the chance.

This infamous home was originally built in 1927. In 2010 it was purchased by retired math teacher David D'Antonio and his wife Caroline for $950,000. Several renovations were made to the home during this time. From a new sunroom, to fixing up the old boathouse. Then again in 2017 it was sold for $605,000. The three story home sits on Amityville Creek, hence the obvious famous name. It's a Dutch Colonial that has five bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, and also includes a basement. Inside the 3,600 sq ft home you have a mixture of hardwood and carpet flooring. This home is actually really beautiful, as is the creek it sits on. I wish I had the guts to buy it.

Classic & Cozy: The Exterior

Much like most of the homes on this street, the front is actually visible once you turn down the driveway. It's a classic Dutch Colonial, with both front and back balconies. Classic paint with classic shutters complete this seemingly traditional style home. It's beautiful with mature, overgrown trees reaching much taller than the house itself.

One of the later renovations done to this home is this sunroom. Which I think was a fantastic idea because it's probably my favorite place in this home. Perhaps it's the wall of windows that lets the sun soak in, or the fact that it's right in front of the water, but just looking at this photo I feel at peace.

If the sunroom wasn't enough, there is also the round stoned patio right out back. Visible from the upper level balcony, but nestled privately between hedges and bushes, this is the perfect spot to relax, listen to the water, the birds chirping, and feel a nice cool breeze while enjoying a nice cold drink.

Once the sun goes down, you can relax inside the living room. Sit in front of the fireplace and get cozy with a blanket, while you can enjoy the beautiful hardwood floors and recessed lighting.

Conclusion: Hauntingly Beautiful

If you take away the chilling aspect, this home is actually a peaceful looking home. Gorgeous sunroom that sits right on the water is a selling point for me, minus the ghosts of course.
