A singer, dancer and actress Jane Powell amassed quite a fortune over the course of her remarkable career. The actress was best known for her work in musical films and starred in movies like Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Royal Wedding, Athena and many others. She was also an accomplished author and penned seveal memoirs and children’s books.

Powell was born on April 1, 1929 in Portland, Oregon and started her performing career at the age of three by appearing in local vaudeville shows. She was spotted by MGM talent scouts at the age of thirteen and signed a contract with the studio. The studio showcased her vocal, dancing and acting talents in various musical movies during the 1940s and 1950s. The movie industry adored her innocent, girl-next-door image and the public loved her.

During her career, Powell appeared in a total of 63 movies. She also made appearances on the television show The Love Boat and guest starred on daytime soap operas such as As the World Turns. Powell also had a successful Broadway career and appeared in several revivals of the musical Irene.

In the later stages of her life, Powell’s film appearances dwindled but she continued to work in theatre. She also authored seveal memoirs and penned a couple of children’s books including Little Red Riding Hood: A Classic Fairy Tale Picture Book. Powell died at the age of 92 at her home in Wilton, Connecticut. Her longtime friend Susan Granger stated that she passed away from natural causes.
