The third season of Food Network's Outrageous Pumpkins premiered this weekend. The show pits seven pumpkin carving enthusiasts against each other to create not just your average jack-o-lanterns, but highly artistic and gravity-defying scenes that celebrate Halloween. The show is hosted by Alyson Hannigan and judged by puppeteer Terri Hardin and master pumpkin sculptor Ray Villafane.
The first episode of Outrageous Pumpkins featured a man from Grove City, Ohio. Brian "Tator" Edwards is one of the elite pumpkin carvers competing on the show. He says he began carving nine years ago. He started by learning the basics in his college's art club. He now uses power tools to make 3D designs instead of the traditional carved jack-o-lanterns. He was featured after a casting company reached out to him on Facebook looking for contestants.
Another of the competitors is from Rochester, New York. Adam Bierton owns the Chick’n Out restaurant in Rochester. He's well known for his 3D pumpkins and has competed on other shows in the past. He also sculpts ice and wood, but says pumpkins are his specialty.
The team for Outrageous Pumpkins chose to shoot on a farm in Mattituck, New York. The farm is called Harbes Family Farm & Vineyard and is located at 715 Sound Avenue P.O. Box 1524, Mattituck, NY 11952. The farm is a year-round destination and offers fun activities like an 8-acre Barnyard Adventure featuring farm animals, a trike track, sports zone, bounce pillows, a hedge maze and apple picking.
