Carlos Alan Autry Jr (born July 31, 1952 in Shreveport, Louisiana) is an American politician, former football player, actor, and film producer. He was the mayor of Fresno from 2000 to 2009. Autry is the son of Carl Autry and Verna Brown Autry. He is a distant cousin of Gene Autry, the Singing Cowboy.
In high school, he was a star quarterback and received a scholarship to the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. After college, he joined the Green Bay Packers as a backup quarterback. He stayed in the NFL for just one season before retiring to pursue acting.
As an actor, he made guest appearances on shows like Cheers, The A-Team, and the Dukes of Hazzard. He also appeared in films like Western Mass and North Dallas Forty.
Autry is a former Republican Party member and served two terms as the mayor of Fresno. During his tenure, he managed to balance the city’s budget without cutting municipal jobs. In addition, he lobbied for a ban on gay marriage.
Autry married Vicky Brown in 1980 and they had a daughter together. He later divorced her and married Kimberlee Green in 1994. He has a son named Austin with Green. The couple founded the production company Dirt Road Productions in 1997. In 2002, they produced the television movie The Legend of Jake Kincaid for which he worked as producer, director, and scriptwriter.
