The Idaho Murder House Set To Be Demolished

August 5, 2023

The Idaho murder house is a house in Moscow, ID, where a string of horrific murders occurred. On November 13, 2022, four students from the University of Idaho were brutally stabbed while asleep in their bed in the early morning. The case quickly made headlines across the country, and even more so in Moscow as the town hadn’t previously seen a murder since 2015. Two of the victims, Madison Mogen and Xana Kernodle, lived in the home, while the third victim, Kaylee Goncalves, recently moved out but returned to spend the night. Xana’s boyfriend, Ethan Chapin was sadly the fourth victim. That grim night there were also two other female roommates sleeping, but for reasons unknown, were thankfully spared. Just over a month after the murders, on December 30, 2022, 28 year old Bryan Kohberger was arrested and charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary. While no official motive has been released, there have been numerous theories from the public, from mental health issues to incel ideologies. Kohberger’s trial begins in October 2023, with prosecutors seeking the death penalty. “Consequently, considering all evidence currently known to the State, the State is compelled to file this notice of intent to seek the death penalty.”

The house located on King Rd, sadly dubbed the Idaho murder house, is worth an estimated $443,800. Featuring six bedrooms and three bathrooms, with two bedrooms and one bathroom located on each level. It has 3,120 sq ft in space, with all new renovations completed in 2019. Renovations include cabinets and floors in the kitchen, two remodeled bathrooms, and all new floorings. There is no carpet in this home, only laminate, linoleum, and vinyl carpet. A nice perk, especially for college students, is the washer and dryer in the unit, as well as a huge deck and patio. While this house at one time was ideal for college students, out of respect for the victims and their families, the house is set to be demolished. The plans for demolishing were announced in February of this year, however plans have been halted until October, when Bryan Kohberger’s trial begins. University President Scott Green explained the reasoning behind the pause by saying, “While we look forward to removing this grim reminder of this tragedy, we feel holding until October is the right thing to do,”

During Kohberger's arraignment, he stood speechless when the judge asked how he pleads. The judge then in turn entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. During the time of his arrest, he was a Ph.D. criminology student and teaching assistant at Washington State University's Pullman campus. That campus is just 15 minutes away from where the murders took place. Some argue that his background in criminology, mixed with an alleged mental illness, makes him the perfect suspect.
