When you sleep your body moves in different positions that identify you as the type of sleeper. Here are ways you can identify it:

The Spine

When you sleep your body is rested into a position where your spine is either exposed to where the pressure falls: on the side (side sleeper) or less pressure on the spine (a stomach sleeper) or covered spine e.g. laying straight (back sleepers).

These types of sleepers have their spines tilted according to their body weight being shifted in their sleep. Side sleepers have a tilted spine, back sleepers have straight and stomach sleepers have their spine titles in an inwards curve.

The pressure

While sleeping your body drops its pressure according to the side you sleep on concerning certain pressure on the spine, hips, shoulders, or overall.

Side sleepers rely their pressure on their shoulders and hip, back sleepers completely on their back, and stomach sleepers upfront. The pressure also depends on the weight of the body.

People with higher weight maybe have great chance of being less comfortable on a soft bed with low firmness then a harder bed with a greater firmness level

Firmness

Once you know the type of sleeper you are, it can help you determine the type of firmness your mattress needs to have.

The firmest or hardness of the best mattress becomes more as the number increases. Its range starts from 0 which is the softest to at least 8 or 9 which are hard mattresses. Properly knowing the science behind choosing the best mattress for your sleep needs, is equivalent to the firmness of your mattress. How?

Well, 0-3 are for soft sleepers. The soft bed gives a hugging and stress-relaxing feeling to its individuals. 3-6 are medium sleepers. There are mostly side sleepers that need their pressure divided equally to shoulder, hip, and spine. These mostly provide the body with good support, comfortable movement and stress-free sleeping. 6 onwards are combined sleepers (move around to different positions in their sleep) or straight sleepers. Their body weight falls mostly on one side.

Movement

Our body moves around in our sleep and these movements divide us into different types of sleepers. People move around a lot and often switch positions while sleeping too.

Constant movement from one position to another makes the sleeper called a combined sleeper. Bed firmness from 3-5 is good, comfortable, bouncy, and stress relieving for such sleepers.
