The fifth season of 60 days in premiered on January 3, 2019. It was filmed at Pinal County Jail in Florence, Arizona. The participants, all law-abiding citizens, lived among the general population of the jail to help bring about change.

They were warned about the risks of being filmed in a jail. They were also briefed that they could be exposed to violent acts and other dangers. Despite this, the participants still volunteered to go into a prison. They knew that the risks were real and they were willing to take them.

A narcotics detective with 12 years of experience from Clark County, Indiana led the group of participants. The other participants included a special education teacher who works with at-risk youth, a veterinary assistant, a political science major, a faith-based operations manager, and a military veteran.

The sixth season of the popular show 60 Days In was filmed at the Etowah County Detention Center in Gadsden, Alabama. The sheriff of the jail, Jonathon Horton, has been a part of the production since practically day one of his administration. He believes that the show is an important way to educate people about what happens behind bars.
