The new season of Winx Club dropped on Netflix yesterday, and besides a fantastic cast and cliffhanger storylines, what fans are really loving about this reboot is the stunning backdrop of Alfea. But where was this fairy boarding school filmed?

According to reports, the majority of Fate: The Winx Saga was filmed in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland, with some scenes shot at Ardmore Studios and Killruddery House. The Killruddery House doubled as the fictional Alfea College, a place where only the best fairies and “specialists” from the Otherworld come to hone their skills.

Abigail Cowen stars as Bloom, a California girl who is sent to Alfea after nearly burning her parents to a crisp with her fire powers. She and her friends must learn to harness their magic while navigating friendships, romances, rivalries, and monsters that threaten the Otherworld.

Other Winx characters include Hannah van der Westhuysen as Stella, a fashionista light fairy who is Sky’s former girlfriend and princess of the Kingdom of Solaria; Eliot Salt as Terra Harvey, an awkward earth fairy who has trouble connecting socially with others; and Elisha Applebaum as Musa, a mind fairy who feels other people’s emotions.

The show’s producer, Brian Young (The Vampire Diaries), made some efforts to course-correct after Winx Club fans expressed disappointment with its darker tone in Season 1. Flora was added as a significant character and costuming was brightened, among other changes. But despite these efforts, some fans remain concerned about the show’s direction.
