The home renovation shows you see on TV may leave you with stars in your eyes, but the magic doesn’t always translate to reality. A number of Utah homeowners have brought serious allegations to KSL Investigators against Candis and Andy Meredith and their show Home Work, which premiered this month as part of Chip and Joanna Gaines’ new linear channel Magnolia Network.

The pair was hired to renovate homes across the state. But homeowners say they had to pay extra for repairs, received shoddy workmanship, and were given the run-around when trying to address their concerns with the Merediths or their contractor, Lemco Construction. One woman who worked with the Merediths says she was left with a $10,000 bill that was never paid, and she even had to go to court to resolve her situation.

In the case of Home Town, the majority of the episodes are filmed in Ben and Erin Napier’s real-life hometown, Laurel, Mississippi. While the Napiers do travel for other locations, most of the shows are filmed in their hometown to ensure local businesses are supported.

Magnolia, the new linear and streaming channel curated by the Fixer Upper alums, made a splashy linear launch this week and premiered several new shows. But the launch was interrupted when several homeowners featured on the series came forward to say their homes were damaged during renovations and they were not paid for extra work. Magnolia, which is a joint venture between Discovery and lifestyle mavens Chip and Joanna Gaines, temporarily pulled the Home Work series after the claims were made. The network has now re-introduced the show after conducting a probe into the claims.
