Netflix’s adaptation of the Joe Hill comic book series Locke and Key left a mark on audiences in its first season, which was released back in February 2020, and its second season in 2021. The show captivated audiences with its fantastical story and characters, but also because of the locations that it was set in, including Key House and the town of Matheson. The production team did an amazing job of bringing the locations from the comics to life on screen, and it’s no wonder why fans would want to visit them.

The town of Matheson was filmed in Ontario, Canada. In fact, the exterior of the Matheson Academy was filmed at Humber College Lakeshore Campus in Etobicoke. To reach the school, you can take the 501L Red Line bus from Toronto and get off at Lake Shore Blvd West at Twenty Street. Then, just walk for a minute and you’ll find the school.

Some of the other scenes were filmed at Mississauga’s Mill Race Park, Woodstock’s Museum Square and 9 King Street, and Lunenburg, where Bluenose Drive, Montague Street, and Drowning Caves were used as backdrops for the fictional town of Matheson. Several interior shots were filmed at Cinescape Film Studios in Toronto. And, the Radio Times reports that the Keyhouse was a combination of a front facade built in the Canadian countryside and CGI.

Fans of Locke and Key can watch all the episodes on Netflix. But, if they’re planning on visiting the filming locations of the show, it’s best to be prepared for some spoilers.
