Longmire, the western TV series based on best-selling novels by Craig Johnson and starring Robert Taylor as Sheriff Walt Longmire, takes place in fictional Absaroka County, Wyoming. But the show was filmed all over New Mexico, where the landscape is perfect for capturing that sense of a rugged and wild West.

In fact, the fictional town of Durant is actually a combination of two real towns, both of which you can visit to see the filming locations from the show. Las Vegas and Santa Fe are located roughly a one-hour drive apart, and each offers plenty of Longmire sites to see. In Las Vegas, you’ll find the sheriff’s department, the Plaza Hotel, and many other recognizable backdrops, while in Santa Fe, you’ll discover the district courthouse and more.

One of the most recognizable filming locations from the show is the sheriff’s office, which was used for scenes involving Walt Longmire and his team. The actual sheriff’s department is located at the southwestern corner of the downtown Plaza, and it features a distinctive door that’s sure to impress fans of the show. Similarly, the infamous Kodiak Bank, where Martha was murdered in season two, is actually a fancy pedestrian lane that production turned into a shady alley with fencing and dumpsters.
