The Masked Dancer, which airs on Fox, is based off of a popular segment on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and follows a similar format as its spinoff show. Celebrities don masks and hit the dance floor in an effort to wow judges and viewers.
The first season of the celebrity dance competition premiered on Dec. 27 and has already unmasked five stars. The Disco Ball was rapper Ice-T, Ice Cube was science communicator Bill Nye, the Moth was child safety activist Elizabeth Smart, and the Cricket was Grammy-nominated singer Brian McKnight.
Throughout the first season, the masked celebrities went through several different costumes and performances to try and win the trophy. The final episode was broadcast on Jan. 20 and revealed that the winner was dancer and former GLEE star Heather Morris.
After the finale, viewers were left to wonder who was behind each of the masked celebrities. In addition to dropping major hints during their performance, the celebs also dropped clues in the form of dance-themed riddles. The clues that were most useful included ones that pointed to the performer’s origin, the genre of the dance they were performing, and their past career as a dancer.
The Masked Dancer is filmed in Bovingdon, a village in Hertfordshire, and locals are able to apply for tickets via ticket company Lost In TV in order to attend the recording sessions. The second series will be recorded this Spring, and the judging panel is expected to include Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, and former Strictly star Oti Mabuse.
