While we all love the baking competition series Nailed It, what goes on behind the scenes is what really keeps us watching. The Netflix show features amateur bakers trying to recreate grandiose desserts while being judged by professional pastry chef Jacques Torres. It’s a hit that has already been picked up by other countries, but it all starts with the hosts and judges. The main judges are comedian/actor Nicole Byer and chef Jacques Torres, with local celebrity guest judges rotating in and out of the spot.
The show’s producers know that it’s the contestants who get the most laughs, but they also have to make sure each challenge isn’t too difficult. If the obstacles were too easy, it wouldn’t be as fun to watch as seeing people struggle and fail in hilarious ways. That’s why each season of Nailed It has a few challenges that are more difficult than others.
There are currently four seasons of Nailed It on Netflix, including a Halloween spin-off titled Nailed It: Double Trouble. The show will not be returning for a seventh season, though, after production was shut down by the crew due to the lack of a union contract with producer Magic Elves.
The show is filmed in a studio on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. According to theCinemaholic, a number of other shows produced by Magical Elves are filmed in the same studio, including Top Chef, Snoop and Martha’s Very Tasty Halloween, and National Geographic’s Brain Games. It can take up to 14 hours to shoot one 30-minute episode of Nailed It, and that doesn’t include all of the footage that won’t make the final cut.
