Unlike other reality shows that tend to stick with the same location year after year, Naked and Afraid is all about pushing contestants to their limits in different locations. Whether it's the rugged wilderness of northern New Mexico or the exotic Oribi Gorge in South Africa, there are no shortage of places for the production crew to film.

When it comes to picking the right locations, the producers have a few criteria that they must meet before an area can be considered for filming. According to Steve Rankin, executive producer of Naked and Afraid and its spinoffs, the first requirement is that the location must be remote. He says that the area must be far from civilization in order to give the contestants the feeling of isolation.

He also looks for a place with natural obstacles like mountains, rivers, and streams. Lastly, the producer makes sure that the area is accessible so that in the event of an emergency, the cast members can be evacuated in a timely manner.

Naked and Afraid has already filmed in a variety of unique locations including the Atchafalaya Basin, a twisting river swamp in Louisiana, Florida's Everglades, and Africa's Great Karoo desert. Its latest season is filmed in the jungles of Guyana, South America with contestants including Waz Addy, a former professional rugby player and military veteran, Sarah Bartell, a three-time Naked and Afraid winner, and Amber Hargrove, a decorated Army veteran who holds the record for most naked days on the show.
