The first three episodes sent out for review suggest Pivoting may need to shift gears a bit. Its idea — what if three Long Island pals were so catalyzed by the death of a friend that they remodeled their lives, or at least their maternal skills — isn’t very fresh anymore. And while Coupe and Goodwin both give fine performances, their characters’ predicaments veer past relatable to over-familiar, whether Jodie’s struggle to zip her skinny jeans or Amy’s frantic efforts to get a grip on her career.
Pivoting was filmed in Los Angeles County, which is also the location for hit shows like Cobra Kai and The Mandalorian. The nexus of the film industry, Los Angeles is a world-class city that offers a wide variety of locations to choose from, including its iconic landmarks and historic districts. The metropolitan backdrop is essential to the show’s story, as it helps convey the sense of independence and freedom the women feel in their quest for happiness.
FOX originally ordered the single-camera comedy back in February of 2020. But the coronavirus pandemic put everything on hold for a while. Eventually, the network picked up the pilot to series and gave it a full season order.
