Unlike previous seasons which were filmed in New York and South Carolina, the fourth season of The Sinner was entirely filmed in Canada. Filming for the crime drama series was based in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. This picturesque fishing town served as the fictitious Hanover Island on the show. The fourth season of the show premiered on Oct. 13.
The Sinner stars Bill Pullman as Harry Ambrose, a retired detective who is drawn back into the case of an unsolved murder. The series follows him as he investigates the disappearance of a wealthy lobster family's daughter. It also focuses on Ambrose's emotional struggles with his wife and his troubled relationship with his mother.
Filming for the series began in April 2021 and wrapped by September of the same year. The majority of the filming was done in Lunenburg, with other towns helping to create the façade of Hanover Island on screen. The town's waterfront and the Adams and Knickle Fish Company doubled as Hanover's port area. The church scenes were filmed at St. John's Anglican Church.
Some of the exterior shots were shot in Halifax, which is the capital city of the province of Nova Scotia. Other locations included Park Lane Mall, which was used for the store where Percy works in episode three. The exterior of the church where Ambrose and Cora attend Mass was filmed at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. The wooded areas where Ambrose and Cora explore were filmed in Yonkers & Congers.
