Anyone who has had to start their life over in their early twenties or thirties knows where Sofia Black-D’Elia’s character, Samantha Fink, is coming from when she moves back home with her mother in Season 1 of Single Drunk Female. After a public flameout at her New York media company, the boozy twentysomething is forced to seize the only opportunity she has to sober up and avoid jail time: moving back in with her domineering mother.
While there are plenty of frothy candy-colored shows that purport to be millennial comedies, Single Drunk Female is one of the few to address real issues faced by young women, including addiction and family relationships. The Freeform series stars Black-D’Elia as Samantha, whose sobriety is shaky but she is determined to turn things around.
The second season of Single Drunk Female premiered on Wednesday, April 12, 2023. It consists of ten episodes and is available to stream on Hulu in the US. Unfortunately, the service is not available in Canada, but you can still access it with a VPN that routes your internet traffic through a server located in the US. Single Drunk Female’s cast also includes Ally Sheedy (The Breakfast Club) as Carol, Samantha’s overbearing mother. Sasha Compere (LOVE LIFE) plays Brit, Samantha’s smart and loyal ex-BFF. Rebecca Henderson (RUSSIAN DOLL) and Lily Mae Harrington (SOME FREAKS) round out the main cast as Olivia, a brilliant melancholic lesbian who works at AA and Felicia, Samantha’s fun and fearless drinking companion.
