Where is the Bridge in Stay Close Filmed?

August 12, 2023

From the creators of Safe and The Stranger, the new Netflix drama Stay Close is a gripping tale of three families caught up in an enigmatic crime story. The gritty miniseries – which stars Cush Jumbo, Sarah Parish, Richard Armitage and James Nesbitt – was filmed in a range of cool places around England. From scenic beaches to engrossing woods, the filming locations of Stay Close are as intriguing as the series itself.

Among the most recognisable locations in Stay Close is the lapdancing club Vipers where sinister things are afoot. While the swanky interior of the club was filmed in one of Manchester’s nightclubs, Impossible Bar on Peter Street, most of the exterior shots for the club were shot at the derelict nightclub Shorrocks Hill in Formby.

Fans of the show will also recognise the Silver Jubilee Bridge connecting Runcorn and Widnes as the location where the car chase takes place early on in the series. The imposing structure was built in 1998, and it’s the largest pedestrian bridge in the region. The famous Dream Sculpture by Jaume Plensa in St Helens also appears several times in the show.

The homes of the central characters were filmed in various locations around Lancashire and Greater Manchester. Megan Shaw’s home is based in Didsbury, while Sarah Green and Lorraine Griggs’ homes are located in the area of Whalley Range. Ray’s studio is in Ashton-under-Lyne and the village of Hale is used for some scenes, as well as an old rectory near Ormskirk.
