The CW reboot of Walker, Texas Ranger is one of the most popular television shows currently airing. It stars Jared Padalecki as Cordell Walker, a widower who returns to his family in Austin. While there, he clashes with his children and his brother (Keegan Allen) and investigates his wife's mysterious death.
The show was filmed in and around Austin, including the famous Texas State Capitol. The production team took a page from original producer Chuck Norris and made sure that the city's landmarks and iconic statues appeared in every episode. The city also agreed to a deal that required every episode shot in Austin to feature the city's logo at the end.
In addition to the major locations, many small scenes were filmed at local businesses. The Side Step Bar on 707 W St Johns Ave, for instance, appears in multiple episodes as the fictional bar owned by Walker and his partner Micki. The Millett Opera House on 614 E Oltora St was used for various shots, as did the Baker School in Hyde Park and the old fashioned burger joint, Top Notch Hamburgers.
The CW's decision to bring the show back to the state of Texas was a great decision for local residents, as the cast is chock full of Texans. In addition to Padalecki, Lindsey Morgan and Keegan Allen, there's Violet Brinson from Dallas and Gavin Casalegno from Austin. And of course, the production company, Eye Productions, is from California but a big part of the deal was based on keeping jobs in Texas.
