For those who haven't yet binged the Amazon series based on Robert Jordan's epic fantasy books, you're in for an enthralling ride. The show stars Rosamund Pike as Moiraine, a powerful Aes Sedai who's tasked with protecting and guiding young folks through the world. From mossy hills to grand green landscapes, the fantasy drama has plenty of gorgeous backdrops that drench each episode in magic.
While much of the scenery on the show is filmed in studios, production crews also had to film scenes on location. And the producers did a fantastic job of choosing locations that fit the story's medieval setting. Most of the scenery for the first season was filmed in the Czech Republic, but some scenes were filmed in Slovenia and Dubrovnik. And unconfirmed rumors suggest that Tenerife was used for some of the series' secluded mountain scenes, while Morocco stands in as the Aiel Waste in Season 2.
The first season of Wheel of Time filmed from September of 2021 to November of 2021. But like many other television and film projects, the COVID-19 pandemic forced production to halt for a few months. Filming resumed in April of 2022 and wrapped up in October of that year.
The main Wheel of Time filming location was Jordan Studios in Prague. It's not unusual for a show to have a studio set to accommodate interior shots and visual effects. But this was a rare case in that the team decided to build an entire complex dedicated to the project.
