After a long prison sentence, Alex returns home with newfound research on what happened to his sister and a singular focus: to find and punish Sara’s real killer by any means necessary. The first season of the show, starring Manolo Cardona, was released on March 24th and has already garnered many fans and critics alike. The series was filmed across Mexico, with most of the scenes in Mexico City. The beautiful lake scenes were filmed in Valle de Bravo, a town southwest of the capital.

The show was created by Chilean writer Jose Ignacio Valenzuela and is set in the affluent echelons of Mexico City and Xalapa. It’s produced by Perro Azul, whose studio is based in Mexico City and where Netflix’s Latin America offices are located.

While the fictional Lazcano family may be full of deceit and betrayal, the last name is actually shared by a real-life drug lord. Heriberto “El Toro” Lazcano, the former leader of the Los Zetas cartel, is known for his ruthless methods and unimaginably brutal torture tactics.

While it’s not certain that he killed Sara, El Toro is suspected to have been the one behind her death. He has also been linked to the disappearance of several young women in the area. Regardless, the story is still unfolding and it’s sure to be a riveting ride. Hopefully, the second season of Who Killed Sara will be just as compelling and engaging as the first.
